Golduck may be a combination of ''gold'' and ''duck''. While Golduck itself is not colored gold, gold is often used to {{wp|Gold (color)#Parapsychology|symbolize the psychic abilities}}: the {{DL|Gummi|Gold Gummi}} is the Gummi variety loved by Psychic-type Pokémon, and the {{Badge|Marsh}}'s Japanese name is "Gold Badge". It is also theorised by some fans to be a mistake - Golduck's name may have been intended for Psyduck, which is colored yellow, and Golduck was instead meant to be called Psyduck, for mastering its Psychic abilities. ''Gol'' is also Kurdish for "lake" or "sea".
