Umbreon (Pokémon): Difference between revisions

Umbreon is most likely based off of a black fox, a color variation of the {{wp|red fox}}, with qualities of jackals. However, it also posesses traits simaler to those of a {{wp|black cat}}, such as slitted eyes and a lithe sleek body. The rings on its body look like Egyptian lunar markings and jewelry and cat statues, though they also resemble solar eclipses. Umbreon may also be based on {{wp|Anubis}}, the jackal-headed Eqyptian god of funerals and death. Some of its traits, such as the long ears, are similar to those of a {{wp|fennec fox}}, a small desert fox, or possibly a {{wp|hare}}; Numerous East Asian legends concern a {{wp|Moon rabbit}}. In old European stories, the {{wp|Moon gazing hare}} also has roots tied to folklore sources containing references to the Moon, hares, and night-time.
