:::::::::舞台 is not "stage" here, though--it's more properly rendered as "setting."  I suppose the issue can only be truly settled by keeping tabs on whether or not Masuda ever uses a different phrasing regarding the connection between New York and Isshu.  And no worries about the name; I just wanted to point it out since I figured that you just didn't know what 仮面 was, and that "man" is generally preferable when translating 男.
