==History==

When {{adv|Red}} was a young boy, he owned Poli as a {{p|Poliwag}}. While swimming one day, Red began to drown and Poli was unable to do anything but watch. Due to being unable to help Red in his current state, he [[Evolution|evolved]] into {{p|Poliwhirl}} and saved him.

Poli first appeared in ''[[PS001|A Glimpse of the Glow]]'', helping to capture a {{p|Nidorino}} for Red. Poli later battled a {{pkmn2|wild}} {{adv|Mew}}, but was knocked out in a hit.

During the [[Indigo Plateau|Pokémon League]], Poli battled a Trainer's {{p|Kabutops}}, advancing Red to the semi-finals. In ''[[PS040|A Charizard…and a Champion]]'', Poli and Pika helped Saur defeat [[Blue's Charizard]] in a brilliant strategy by having Poli's water vapor and Pika's electric energy create a thundercloud that struck a vine shot and wrapped around it by Saur.

In ''[[PS066|Punching Poliwrath]]'', Poli is shown in a flashback fighting against [[Bruno]]'s {{p|Hitmonchan}}. Poli was easily able to block all of Hitmonchan's attacks and strike back with Double Slap, but was taken out when Hitmonchan attacked with Thunder Punch and {{m|Fire Punch}}. Poli battled in the rematch against Bruno in ''[[PS084|Clefabulous Clefable]]'', where he battles {{p|Machamp}}. Machamp quickly overpowers him after his belt is removed and holds Poli down. Vee manages to use the water Poli left to use {{m|Acid Armor}} to surprise attack Machamp, allowing him to defeat it.

In ''[[PS115|Forretress of Solitude]]'', Poli was part of the team that Red used in his test to become [[Viridian City]]'s [[Gym Leader]], though he was not seen participating.

Poli appeared in a fantasy in ''[[PS259|Rayquaza Redemption II]]'', when {{adv|Sapphire}} explained to {{adv|Ruby}} that the accomplishments of Red and his team inspired her to train to battle.

Poli battled [[Carr]]'s {{p|Steelix}} in ''[[PS278|Put Your Beast Foot Forward]]''. Poli sends a {{m|Focus Punch}} at Steelix, sending it flying. Carr tries to counter with Steelix's {{m|Iron Tail}}, but Poli simply catches it in his hands, using {{m|Mind Reader}} to predict the attack. Poli then lifts Steelix into the air by its tail and smashes it into the ground.

In ''[[PS299|Distant Relation Deoxys]]'' and ''[[PS301|Storming the Forretress]]'', Poli was seen joining Red's other Pokémon, Blue's Charizard, and [[Chuchu]] to take down the ten {{p|Forretress}} that Carr had placed inside the [[Team Rocket airship]]. His {{a|Damp}} [[Ability]] combined with Organism No. 2's use of {{m|Skill Swap}} enabled Red to counter Carr's final exploding Forretress.

In ''[[PS335|The Final Battle VIII]]'', Poli joined forces with {{adv|Gold}}'s {{p|Politoed}}, [[Polibo]], while battling against [[Guile Hideout]]. After saving {{adv|Emerald}} and his {{TP|Emerald|Dusclops}} from {{adv|Jirachi}}'s {{m|Doom Desire}} attack, Poli used {{m|Double Team}} to confuse Guile Hideout so that Polibo could get a chance to sneak closer and attack. Although Guile Hideout tried to send his {{p|Walrein}} and {{p|Masquerain}} to attack the Tadpole and Frog Pokémon, they simply threw them away and attacked Guile Hideout directly, breaking his armor.

Poli appeared in a flashback in ''[[PS448|Pleased as Punch With Parasect]]'', where Gold and [[Radio Director|Hirō]] think back to when Hirō reported on Red and Gold's [[PSs2|training]] on [[Mt. Silver]]. He appeared again in a flashback in ''[[PS460|All About Arceus IX]]'', when Hirō explains that he based [[Proteam Omega]] off of Red's team after watching him train on Mt. Silver.
