In the early [[Generation I]] and [[Generation II|II]] games, many [[glitch]]es contained Japanese {{wp|katakana}} and {{wp|hiragana}} text; most notably the {{tt|ゥ|Katakana small u}}. The English games were not supposed to contain ''any'' Japanese characters at all, however, some characters were left behind within the coding.

The localizations of these older games were not supposed to contain ''any'' kana at all but some characters were left behind within the internal data.
