Does False Swipe deal reduced damage against a Substitute if the target has less health than False Swipe would do? Such as if False Swipe could do 50%, but the target has 20% left, would False Swipe do 20% (the amount that would KO the target) or enough to break the Substitute (since no hit would actually KO the target due to being intercepted by the Sub)? I suspect the first, but haven't been able to confirm. Ordalca

:False Swipe can destroy a substitute, but, unless the user can make the move bypass Substitute (like with Infiltrator), the move will never hit the Pokémon behind the substitute. --Bfdifan2006 (talk | contribs) 08:50, 1 May 2024 (UTC)

::I think that wording is needed to clarify that, if a substitute is set up such that only 3HP remain to the Pokémon after the substitute's set up, False Swipe will not deal merely 2HP to the substitute (but is able to destroy it entirely). :::Part of it is that we also need to confirm whether that is the case, that it will not only deal 2HP to the sub. Depending on the timing of the redirection to the sub, it could be either result, and the current page doesn't specify which one it will be. ::::Got a friend to test this in S/V, it appears to deal full damage against the substitute. They had a 1HP pokemon behind the substitute, but the FalseSwipe still destroyed the Substitute doll. Ordalca (talk) 01:25, 8 May 2024 (UTC)
