During a battle with a Pokémon or Trainer, there is a random chance that the player's Pokémon will become dirty. If this happens, at the end of the battle, an icon will appear on the lower screen that will allow the player to open Pokémon Refresh to care for their Pokémon. If their Pokémon has a [[status condition]], this option will always show up to allow the player to cure their Pokémon. If the after-battle option is missed or the player leaves without fully cleaning their Pokémon, it will not remain dirty if the player opens Refresh from the [[menu]] afterwards. The chances that a Pokémon will become dirty may increase for longer battles.
