I think these sections need a major overhaul. They have a very biased tone. Whoever wrote them seems determined to leave the reader with the idea that Jynx is a racist steryotype and that other ideas are less valid. I'd rewrite it myself but I thought i should give some warning before such a major edit.[[User:Bug Catcher Wade|<span style="color: Purple;">'''Bug Catcher Wade'''</span>]] 06:58, 15 August 2010 (UTC)

:There are several theories that Jynx was inspired by something other then a racist steryotype:
:1)  Jynx may be inspired by {{wp|ganguro}}, a Japanese fashion where women tan heavily, bleach their hair, and apply large amounts of makeup, instead of a black stereotype. This theory is mainly based on Jynx's long, straight, blonde hair, a common attribute of ganguro fashion.
2) Jynx is based on the Nordic goddess {{wp|Hel}}, who was often depicted has having a face half white-half black.  This theory is supported by the fact that Urd and her mother Hel (renamed Hild which is the name of ''another'' Norse goddess) are both depicted as being dark skinned in the manga series Ah My Goddess!  Also Hel ruled {{wp|Niflheim}}, primarily land of primordial ice and cold and who did ''not'' die a heroic or notable death (it was the closes thing the Norse had to a 'bad' place).  They argue that Jynx's hair looks more like royalty than an African stereotype. They also say that being based on a {{wp|Viking}} goddess who ruled a land of primordial ice and cold would explain why they are {{t|Ice}} type.  This is further expressed by Jynx sharing traits with the iconic opera singing "{{wp|It ain't over 'til the fat lady sings|Fat Lady}}," who is pop-culturally portrayed dressed as the {{wp|valkyrie}} {{wp|Brünnhilde}}.
3) It has also been stated is that Jynx is based on {{wp|Yama-uba}}, the mountain Crone ([[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p8X3l_Tt8VE Game Theory: Pokemon Racism, Jynx Justified]])based on the fact that Yama-uba is generally depicted with black skin in Noh Drama with a red kimona and long white hair.  She is also often depicted in Noh theater by a actor in ganguro-like make up.
:If anything the Jynx based on goddess Hel idea seems to have the most merit especially as in another manga Hel (Hild) was given dark skin.--[[User:BruceGrubb|BruceGrubb]] ([[User talk:BruceGrubb|talk]]) 12:46, 9 July 2017 (UTC)
