HeartGold & SoulSilver (Japanese: 第9章 ハートゴールド・ソウルシルバー編 The Ninth Chapter: HeartGold and SoulSilver) is the ninth chapter of the Pokémon Adventures manga. It features the characters Gold, Silver, and Crystal.
HeartGold & SoulSilver (Japanese: 第9章 ハートゴールド・ソウルシルバー編 The Ninth Chapter: HeartGold and SoulSilver) is the ninth chapter of the Pokémon Adventures manga, consisting of three volumes.

The chapter follows Gold as he is looking for Lance, who has gone missing, and gets in a battle against an Arceus along with Silver and Crystal. Meanwhile, Carr is trying to resurrect Team Rocket and sets up a base at the newly opened Johto. The four Rocket executives, Proton, Petrel, Ariana, and Archer appear and seem to take control from him, saying that they will "stay true to Giovanni's intentions".

Petrel reveals that Lance was taken down by the Generals in a battle. All of the Johto Gym Leaders have made an appearance in this arc. As the arc goes on, it turns out the Four Executives (know as the 'Four Generals' in the manga) are searching for Arceus and the Sinjoh Ruins. It is also revealed by Silver that his father, Giovanni, is missing alongside his Ursaring. Blue gave him a Rhyperior, not only to evolve it, but to have another Pokémon on his team to make up for his missing Ursaring.

Two of the Four Generals have differences in the manga not present in the games, such as Petrel having the ability to successfully disguise himself as any person he's met, and Ariana has appeared much chubbier in later chapters due to Kusaka not wanting her to be portrayed as a 'stereotypical female villain.' During a battle with Crystal, Ariana reveals that each of the Four Generals have a different job: Petrel to seek out the Plates, Proton to find the Sinjoh Ruins, herself to fend off intruders, and when she's about to talk about Archer, the man appears himself with the other two Generals before she can say.

The chapter follows Gold, who gets in a battle with Arceus, as he searches for the missing Lance. Elsewhere, Team Rocket has resurfaced, which causes Silver to set out and stop them once more. Meanwhile, the Four Generals, Archer, Proton, Petrel, and Ariana have taken over the newly-revived Team Rocket from Carr in attempt to find their currently-missing leader, Giovanni.

Trivia
* VS Arceus IX reveals that the events of this chapter take place before the events of the Diamond & Pearl and Platinums, making it the only known chapter that takes place earlier than the chapters preceding it.
