Kingdra (Pokémon): Difference between revisions

Kingdra seems to be based on a {{wp|seahorse}} and the {{wp|common seadragon|weedy seadragon}}. Its {{t|Dragon}} type and {{pkmn|category}} may be a reference to the Japanese word for seahorse, ''tatsu-no-otoshigo'' (dragon's child), which is derived from the myth that a seahorse that lives for a century will transform into a {{wp|dragon}}. The fact that it dwells on the seafloor while creating {{wp|whirlpool}}s may be a reference to {{wp|Ryūjin}}, a Japanese sea deity, or {{wp|Charybdis}}, a sea monster in Greek mythology. Its ability to shoot {{wp|cephalapod ink|ink}} is reminiscent of a {{wp|squid}}, and the shape of its snout and {{a|Sniper}} Ability are reminiscent of a {{wp|water gun}}.

Kingdra may be a combination of ''king'' and ''dragon'' or ''{{wp|Lernaean Hydra|Hydra}}'' (a mythological sea creature).
