The Last Battle V (Japanese: 最終決戦V The Last Battle V) is the 171st chapter of the Pokémon Adventures manga, and the 81st chapter of the Gold, Silver & Crystal arc.

Plot

Spoiler warning: this article may contain major plot or ending details.

After Suicune forms its crystal wall to aid Misty, the Masked Man is cut in half. Despite this, the Masked Man's upper body emerges from the wall. He attacks Lt. Surge, and Entei retaliates by shooting fire into the Masked Man. A large hole is torn into his abdomen from the attack, but he continues to move. Misty commands Suicune to protect the others, but it stumbles and collapses. The Masked Man reveals that he had his Gastly use Curse on Suicune, and if Suicune is trapped within its own wall, there is no escape.

Crystal arrives just in time as Misty begins to lose consciousness. Through Suicune's wall, Crystal sees a hand holding a Clear Bell and realizes that Eusine is inside. The Clear Bell begins to dissolve the crystal wall, and Eusine has his Electrode carry Misty and Suicune out to safety. Seeking Eusine's help for Gold, Crystal goes back to where he was knocked down, but finds that he has disappeared.

Nearby, Falkner, Bugsy, Whitney, and Morty find the Pokémon Association Chairman, who informs them of the Masked Man's apparent invincibility. When he explains that the Masked Man was unaffected by being torn in two and having a hole bored into his stomach, Whitney becomes tense. She begins to shudder as she realizes she knows the identity of the Masked Man.

The Masked Man flies away with Ho-Oh, Lugia, and his Delibird, unaware that Gold is pursuing him from below. Tears can be seen streaming from the Masked Man's mask as he mentions how he will finally be able to see his "La Prus" and "La Pris" again.
