-This character is referred to as male by [[Blue]], [[Professor Oak]], [[Blaine]], [[Agatha]], [[Bill]], and [[Lorelei]] and a lot throughout Volume 4. Surely the six characters are not wrong as there is no attempt made to correct them because they are correct in their judgement. Saying this character is female is like saying [[Ash Ketchum]] and [[Gary Oak]] are the same person. also I quote the volume 4. On the main Characters section, it says " A YOUNG BOY WITH A YELLOW STRAW HAT" referring to this character. There is also "Pikachu knows him?!" on chapter 42, "And his Doduo... protecting itself with a Whirlwind counterattack... again, not a scratch! He fought me to a standstill... with such control that neither Pokémon was hurt in the least..." in the same chapter, "So he's travelin', is he...?" in chapter 44, "He called ya "Pika"" (Same chapter), Bill's comment on his dealing with Lorelei's Cloyster in chapter 45, random commentary by Lorelei in the same chapter, what Misty said in the end of that chapter, Erika's wording of his description of Oak to him in 46, Erika's comments in 47, what the Super Nerd says in the same chapter and in 48, and many more.
