Entries
Every Pokémon with an entry has a page to itself.

Name
Each entry is topped with a large box which lists the Pokémon's name and National Dex number. Underneath is its species (e.g. Aqua Mouse Pokémon for Marill).
Each entry is topped with a large, odd-shaped box. It has the Pokémon's name and Pokédex number, underneath is its species (e.g. Aqua Mouse Pokémon for Marill). On the side of the page is a section that has many facts about the Pokémon itself.

Stock artwork of each Pokémon is the main focus of its entry page. Underneath the picture is a short description about the Pokémon, styled in a way that is similar to a Pokédex entry. Occasionally, a page will also contain a "Pokédex Pick", which is additional information about the Pokémon, often an anecdote about the Pokémon's appearance in the anime.

Stats
The sidebar of each entry contains the following stats:
On the side of the pages, the entries list the following stats:
* Name pronunciation
# Name pronunciation

* Techniques (the basic and most commonly used moves of that Pokémon)
# Techniques (the basic and most commonly used moves of that Pokémon)
* Evolution (either "(Pokémon) evolves into (Evolution)" or "(Pokémon) Does Not Evolve")
# Evolution (either "_____ evolves into _____" or "_____ Does Not Evolve")

Techniques and other techniques are not listed with the levels at which they are learned, and not all the moves the Pokémon can learn appear.
Not all moves in a Pokémon's learnset are listed, nor are TM moves or egg moves that they can learn. The levels which each Pokémon learns each move are not revealed.

Image and other information
If a Pokémon evolves into or is the evolved form of a Generation II Pokémon which was not revealed in this book, the sidebar entry will simply say "(Pokémon) evolves into a new Pokémon".
Each Pokémon has a picture on its page and some pages also feature a "Pokédex Pick," with extra facts about the Pokémon that will cross over in the anime or sometimes have helpful information.

Evolution Chain
At the very bottom of the entry there are evolution chains to show what the Pokémon evolves into or evolved from. Pokémon that do not evolve (or have evolutions that have not been revealed) do not show an evolution chain.
At the very bottom of the entry there are pictures with arrows between them to show what the Pokémon evolves into. Pokémon that do not evolve do not have an evolution chain.

Other Content
Other Content
Besides the entries on each Pokémon, the book includes A word from Professor Oak, it is about the handbook in general. It mentions what is new in Generation II. There are also Johto and Indigo League comparisons that compare Badges, amount needed etc. There are also a couple of pages in it to read up about Pokémon types, that show the types of all Generation I Pokémon and the 33 Generation II Pokémon. At the end of the book, it has pictures and scenes from the Pokémon anime, Pokémon Quick Pics, and a sneak peek at the next Pokémon Handbook. The last two pages have a Pokémon checklist.
At the beginning of the book there is an introductory chapter titled "A Word From Professor Oak". The chapter describes the premise of the handbook and of the Pokémon world in general (this information is largely influenced by anime canon). There are also organized lists of Pokémon by type (dual-type Pokémon are given dual-type listings, often causing a list heading to contain only one Pokémon).

At the end of the book, there are some anime screenshots from the Orange Islands and Johto Journeys anime series which depict Pokémon revealed in the book. A picture of Suicune is also shown in this section, labelled as a "mysterious Pokémon". The last two pages contain a checklist of all the Generation I Pokémon and the 33 new Pokémon (despite the fact that the 33 Generation II Pokémon are unobtainable in Red and the list is far from complete if used for the Gold and Silver versions).

Trivia
* Togepi is the only Pokémon in this book that also has an entry in The Official Pokémon Handbook's deluxe edition. The information about Togepi is more detailed in this book, however, as the first book's entry was completely anime-based.
