Nuzleaf (Japanese: コノハナ Konohana) is a dual-type Pokémon introduced in Generation III.

It evolves from Seedot starting at level 14, and evolves into Shiftry via Leaf Stone.
It evolves from Seedot starting at level 14 and evolves into Shiftry when exposed to a Leaf Stone.

Biology
Biology
Physiology
Nuzleaf is a bipedal plant Pokémon with a single green leaf atop its head. The leaf is smaller on the female. This Pokémon is mostly brown with a beige mask marking on its face. Its bulky thighs are also beige and have thin striations, and there are what appear to be two nipples on its chest. It has thin arms with mitten-like hands. If its long, pointed nose is grabbed, Nuzleaf will lose its power. The nose serves functions as a sensory.
Nuzleaf is more humanoid than Seedot. Its thighs are bulky, and it has two small black dots on its chest. Its nose is pointed and has a light brown "mask", and it also has a leaf on its head.

Gender differences
Using the leaf on its head as a flute, it makes music with leaves that create a sense of unease in people. However, it can also play comforting melodies. Nuzleaf lives in List of Pokémon by habitat and is skilled at climbing, but it will come out of the forest to frighten people. Nuzleaf uses a sound similar to a grass tune to warn wandering intruders.
A female has a smaller leaf on her head.

Special abilities
In Generation III, Extrasensory was its signature move, but other Pokémon could still inherit it via breeding.
Because Nuzleaf have Grass and Dark type characteristics, they are able to use Grass and Dark type moves. They are also able to use Extrasensory. Nuzleaf also have the ability to use leaves as a form of sound the can confuse people and Pokémon. Although not fully evolved, Nuzleaf are able to learn Hyper Beam, but not Giga Impact.

Behavior
Evolution
As seen in episodes Turning Over a Nuzleaf and Leave it to Brocko!, Nuzleaf often use a GrassWhistle.
Nuzleaf evolves from Seedot and evolves intro Shiftry.

Habitat
Diet
Pokémon food

In the anime
Nuzleaf first appeared in Turning Over a Nuzleaf.  When Pikachu, Treecko, May, Brock, May, Brock and Corphish get separated from Ash, May, Brock and Max and got lost in a forest, these wily Pokémon caused trouble for them.

A colony of Seedot and Nuzleaf appeared in Leave it to Brocko!. One of the Nuzleaf got separated from its colony and Brock and Brock had to bring it home before Team Rocket could steal it. This Nuzleaf also seemed to be fast friends with Brock's Sudowoodo, even when Sudowoodo was a Bonsly.

Yōko of the Eterna Gym owns a Nuzleaf. In The Grass-Type is Always Greener, when Gardenia was traveling in the Eterna Forest, it brought her a note summoning her back to the Gym. It seen again in The Grass Menagerie! alongside its trainer.

A Nuzleaf appeared in Camping It Up!.

Trivia
Trivia
*Although Nuzleaf cannot learn GrassWhistle, it is commonly shown in the anime using it.
* Nuzleaf shares its category with Impidimp. They are both known as the Wily Pokémon.
*Nuzleaf's Defense stat is lower than that of its pre-evolved form, Seedot. Additionally, Defense is tied for Nuzleaf's lowest stat, where as Defense is Seedot's highest stat.
* Despite several of Nuzleaf's Pokédex entries stating that it uses the leaf on its head as a flute, Nuzleaf has never been able to learn the move Grass Whistle.

Origin
Origin
Nuzleaf is probably based on an acorn, 天狗 Tengu, tricky Japanese goblins who are known for their long noses, cruel tricks, and ability to read minds, and possibly on Pinnochio.
Nuzleaf appears to be based on a sprouting acorn and a tengu, Japanese yōkai with long noses who use their supernatural powers to protect forests and play cruel tricks on people. It may also be partly based on the similarly named shibatengu, childlike yōkai who wear little clothing and sumo wrestle with humans. Its habit of playing a grass flute is reminiscent of Pan (god), the Greek god of nature known for playing reed pipes. Its wooden, humanoid body and long nose are also reminiscent of Pinocchio.

Name origin
Name origin
Nuzleaf's name may be a combination of nuzzle or nose and leaf. Its Japanese name is literally 巨の鼻 konohana, big nose, but more formally seems to be a combination of 木の葉 konoha, leaves, and 鼻 hana, nose or 花 hana, flower. Konohana may also be この 花 kono hana, this flower.
Nuzleaf may be a combination of nuzzle (to rub with the nose) or nose and leaf.

Konohana may be a combination of 子 ko (child), 木の葉 konoha (leaves), and 鼻 hana (nose). It may also come from the Konoha-Tengu, a type of weak Tengu that doesn't have many powers.
