:::Fascinating! Thanks for the quick reply. Glad we'll be using a more clearly fair use and higher res version now, at least :D I wonder if it's appeared in any official media post-2000, or in any Japanese media. - MK (t/c) 14:05, 12 February 2016 (UTC)

::::If you can find any Kanto Badge artwork in official sources at all, that would be interesting. I searched through Bulbapedia, but I guess, it doesn't have any article with foreign names for all the badges. This was done intentionally or what? Piotrek1113 (talk) 23:03, 21 October 2018 (UTC)
Experience reward cap
In Sword and Shield, the experience you can receive from wild encounters is capped depending on the number of Badges that you have. This Pokémon.com article specifically mentions that if you have 2 Badges, defeating a Pokémon that is over Level 35 will not yield any more experience than if that Pokémon was Level 35.
We're going to need to work out what the cap is for each Badge, because unlike the obedience and capture caps, it is not listed in-game. --<span style="color:#A70000">Snorlax</span><span style="color:#0000A7">Monster</span> 14:11, 4 January 2020 (UTC)

GSC Glacier Badge SpD boost
Based on (also see ), I'll try to explain my reading on when the SpD boost is not applied:
*The Special Defense boost is not applied if bit 0 of a is not set
*If the Special Attack boost was applied, a is not what it used to be, contrary to what the programmers apparently assumed
*It is instead (per line 6839)
**the high byte of the (Badge-boosted) SpA stat
**minus the high byte of the maximum stat of 999 (read: 3)
**minus the carry from the same operation on the low bytes (where the subtrahend is 231), i.e. minus one if SpA%256-231 is less than zero
*Consequently, bit 0 of a will be unset with a Badge-boosted SpA stat of 232-487 (inclusive), which translates to 206-433 (inclusive) before the Badge boost. Nescientist (talk) 14:23, 8 March 2020 (UTC)

What type does Blue's badge boost in GSC?
The article claims that "The type strengthened matches the type theme of the Gym", but Blue's Gym has no set type. So what type does it boost? Ground? Golden Trainer (talk) 13:31, 28 June 2021 (UTC)
:Just checked-- it does in fact boost the Ground type. --<span style="color:#44BAE5">cela</span><span style="color:#DA7D99">donk</span> (talk) 21:10, 28 June 2021 (UTC)

Pokémon Sword and Shield Level Catch Limit (please add)
Yeah, the one mechanic that disallows SwSh players from catching "strong-looking" Pokémon until they have enough badges. It's not listed anywhere in the page.
Anyone with the copy of the game, can you guys verify this mechanic, as well as the level cap for each badge? I wanted to add it to the page, but I don't have a copy of the game.
I think the Exp. gain limit (e.g. having 2 badges means defeating a Pokémon above level 35 only yields what it would yield at level 35) from the same game is also worth mentioning.

:Isn't what you're looking for in the "Obeying Pokémon" section? It lists such info as "Up to Lv. 30. Can capture Pokémon up to Lv. 25". No information about limit of exp gain, but I wasn't able to find anything about it with a quick search. If you know more about it, it would be nice if you could provide that data - some evidence of this mechanic existing, at least. Itan (talk) 11:13, 23 February 2022 (UTC)
::Thanks for pointing this out. Didn't know that the section also mentions the catch level limit. For the exp gain limit, it's mentioned on this official Pokemon.com site. It also mentions that higher star Max Raid battles also require more badges, but only explicitly mentions that the five-star battles is unlocked with the Dragon Badge (the last badge). == Split into individual badge articles ==
I see there's a request to split this page into separate pages named "Kanto Badges", "Johto Badges", "Hoenn Badges", and so on, which was added back in November 2022. However, maybe we could split this page per each individual badge instead. I'd like to suggest creating articles named "Boulder Badge", "Cascade Badge", "Thunder Badge", and so on.
If we think of each badge as basically an item, then each badge often has several effects. For instance, the "Boulder Badge" page could mention this:
* It boosts attack
* It boosts Rock-type moves in Gen II
* Obedience of lv 20 Pokémon in LGPE
* Allows use of Flash
* Once obtained, that guy stops blocking the east exit of Pewter City
* Once obtained, unlocks the first badge check before the Victory Road
* In Gen I only, once this badge is obtained, the early optional battle with the rival on Route 22 becomes unavailable
So it looks like we can say more about the effects of the Boulder Badge than about any of the several items with simple uses (Ether restores 10 PP of a move). As mentioned above, obtaining each badge sometimes removes a roadblock in the game. The "Plain Badge" article could state that once this badge is obtained, the player is able to obtain the Squirt Bottle.
We also sometimes have separate articles for items that are pretty similar to each other, right? I think we have more to say about the differences between the Boulder/Cascade/Thunder/Rainbow Badges than about the differences between Key to Room 1, Key to Room 2, Key to Room 4, and Key to Room 6.
If individual articles like "Boulder Badge", "Cascade Badge", and "Thunder Badge" are created, we can still have the main article "Badge" with basic information like how badges work in general and the full list of links to the badge articles.
The "Badge" article currently has short descriptions about each badge, like saying about the Volcano Badge: "It is red and shaped like a flame with a small pink diamond in the center." This kind of information could be moved to individual badge articles. An article like "Boulder Badge" could also have at least a gallery displaying images of the Boulder Badge in different core series games, not to mention images of the Boulder Badge in spin-off games, anime, and manga. --Daniel Carrero (talk) 19:46, 21 April 2024 (UTC)
:If there's no objection, I removed the older split request into badge group pages such as "Kanto Badges" and added a split request into individual pages such as "Boulder Badge". --Daniel Carrero (talk) 20:24, 29 April 2024 (UTC)
::I wouldn't be opposed to this. We already have articles for individual items, so it wouldn't be all to different from them.  --FinnishPokéFan92 (talk) 20:36, 29 April 2024 (UTC)
:::I'd like to see some draft examples from various generations before proceeding with a split like this.
