It is not known to evolve into or from any other Pokémon.  

Tropius are large {{wp|sauropod}} Pokémon with brown and green bodies. They possess large green leaves on their backs which they use for flight. These leaves also double for sugar production via photosynthesis, to give Tropius even more energy. Despite being very big and bulky, they are surprisingly maneuverable in the air. They have long necks which they use for reaching treetops to gorge on their most favoured food, fruit. They also grow fruit of their own on their necks that resemble a bunch of ripe bananas. These fruit can be picked and consumed by other Pokémon and by humans, and grow twice a year. Their feet have toenails the same color as their fruit.

Tropius spend their days feasting on fruit.  They are generous, allowing children and other Pokémon to pick and eat the fruit growing on their neck.

Tropius live in tropical rain forests, although they also appear in Sinnoh in [[Platinum]], which is a relatively cold region.

Tropius's first appearance was in the Pokémon movie ''[[Jirachi: Wish Maker]]''. In it, Tropius was fleeing from the fake {{p|Groudon}} that was trying to snatch all the Pokémon.

The first major role that Tropius had was in ''[[AG127|From Brags to Riches]]''.  A trainer named [[Dominick]] used the Fruit Pokémon and a {{p|Swalot}} against [[Ash's Corphish]] and {{AP|Torkoal}}. Tropius and Torkoal knocked each other out when their {{m|SolarBeam}} and {{m|Overheat}} attacks connected and created an explosion.

A wild Tropius also challenged [[Ash's Grovyle]] in ''[[AG161|Odd Pokémon Out]]''.

A Tropius made an appearance in ''[[The Rise of Darkrai]]''.

*Tropius and {{p|Tangela}} are the only two Pokémon that are not [[starter Pokémon|starters]] or [[legendary Pokémon|legendaries]] of a previous generation unavailable in {{game|Diamond and Pearl|s}}. They must be transferred forward from a Generation III game or traded from {{game|Platinum}}.

*Tropius is the only {{type2|Grass}} Pokémon that can learn {{m|Fly}}.

**It is also considered to be a good [[HM slave]] as it can learn 5 HM moves -- {{m|Cut}}, {{m|Fly}}, {{m|Strength}}, {{m|Defog}} ({{m|Flash}} in [[Generation III]]), and {{m|Rock Smash}}.

*Tropius and {{p|Carnivine}} are the only non-[[legendary Pokémon|legendary]] {{type2|Grass}} Pokémon that do not evolve from or into another Pokémon.

*Tropius is the exact same size as another {{type2|Grass}} Pokémon, {{p|Venusaur}}. Both have a height of 6 feet 7 inches and a weight of 220.5 pounds.  

*Tropius is one of the few Pokémon other than {{t|Ghost}}, {{type2|Dragon}} Pokémon and dual-type {{2t|Bug|Flying}} that are weak to one of their own types.  Others in that category include {{p|Aerodactyl}} and {{p|Lucario}}.

**Both were introduced in [[Generation III]].

**In {{g|Ruby and Sapphire}}, each were only found on one route, each route having heavy rainfall and their northern exit leading to [[Fortree City]], each with a low appearance rate (Tropius is on [[Route 119]] and Absol on [[Route 120]]).

**Neither one is involved in an evolutionary line.

**Both of their type combinations are fairly uncommon (Tropius shares its {{2t|Grass|Flying}} type combination with just the {{p|Hoppip}} {{p|Skiploom|evolution}} {{p|Jumpluff|family}} and {{p|Shaymin}}'s Sky Forme, and Absol, Poochyena, Mightyena, Umbreon, and Darkrai are the only pure {{t|Dark}}-types).

**Both of them were made into [[Shadow Pokémon]] in {{g|Colosseum}}, at a level in the high forties (Tropius at 49 and Absol at 48), and both were found in [[Realgam Tower]]'s colosseum.

**Both of them had only one ability when first introduced in Generation III, but were given a second one in [[Generation IV]], with the english name of the ability starting with the letter "S", and consisting of two words.  Also, in both cases, this ability was exclusive to Tropius/Absol, and a two-member evolution family, where the lowest form was introduced in [[Generation II]], where the type or types does not change, where at least one type is shared and where the usage of an [[evolution stone]] is required (Tropius, {{p|Sunkern}}, and {{p|Sunflora}} are the only Pokémon with {{a|Solar Power}}, all three are {{type|Grass}}, and Sunkern uses a Sun Stone to evolve into Sunflora.  Likewise, Absol, {{p|Murkrow}}, and {{p|Honchkrow}} are the only Pokémon with {{a|Super Luck}}, all of them are {{type|Dark}}, and Murkrow uses a Dusk Stone to evolve into Honchkrow.  Interestingly, Murkrow and Honchkrow are {{type|Flying}} and Sunkern and Sunflora are not, the opposite of Absol and Tropius's situation).

 

Tropius shares characteristics with the {{wp|Brachiosaurus}}, a {{wp|sauropod}} dinosaur from the late {{wp|Jurassic}} period. There is also a legend that a creature known as {{wp|Mokele mbembe}}, which is said to resemble a sauropod, lives on in the jungles of the {{wp|Congo}} basin in Africa. Tropius also resembles a {{wp|banana plant}}.

Tropius's name is a combination of ''tropical'' and ''-saurus''. It could also be a pun of 'tropism'. {{wp|Phototropism}} happens when the plant needs more sunlight, and so turns to the available source of light. If a plant is planted the wrong way around, the roots will use geotropism to grow towards gravity and find water.
