Vibrava (Japanese: ビブラーバ Vibrava) is a Ground/Dragon-type Pokémon.
|generation=3
|friendship=70
}}
Vibrava (Japanese: ビブラーバ Vibrava) is a dual-type Pokémon introduced in Generation III.

Biology
It evolves from Trapinch starting at level 35 and evolves into Flygon starting at level 45.
Physiology
Vibrava is a dragonfly-like Pokémon. It has a skinny, yellow body, and green, rhombus-shaped wings (along with two similar-looking shapes at the end of its tail). Vibrava has green eyes and skinny black legs.
Gender differences
None.

Special abilities
Biology
Vibrava is capable of emitting and manipulating sound waves from its wings. This ability has been tuned to the point where this Pokémon is able to induce headaches in humans. It also has having the ability Levitate. This allows Vibrava to dodge Ground attacks such as Earthquake and Magnitude. Oddly enough, it's physical-attacking power is actually weaker than Trapinch's.
Vibrava is a dragonfly-like Pokémon. It has a small head with two yellow antennae and green bulging eyes with black oval-shaped pupils. Its mouth has two large white teeth protruding from each side. It has a skinny yellow body, four skinny black legs with slender feet, and four green, rhombus-shaped wings with black edges. There are similarly-colored rhombus shapes at the end of its tail.

As a true Dragon-type Pokémon, Vibrava can learn Draco Meteor.
Vibrava's wings are not fully developed, so it is unable to fly very far. However, it is able to create vibrations and ultrasonic waves with its wings. Humans get headaches from these waves. After causing the prey to faint, as a Saprotrophic nutrition, it spits stomach acid to melt its prey before consumption. It continues this eating process every day to help its wings grow. Vibrava calls the List of Pokémon by habitat home and is also known to preserve its captured prey in the desert's hot sands.

Behavior
Evolution
Upon evolution, Vibrava gains the ability of limited flight. However, its wings are not fully mature, and are ineffective at flying any significant distance. Although they are not this Pokémon's primary method of locomotion, they are their primary method of prey capture. By vibrating its wings rapidly, it produces ultrasonic waves. These waves are quite powerful, and can cause their prey to faint.  Fortunately these waves usually do not do more damage than a headache in humans.
Vibrava evolves from Trapinch and evolves into Flygon.

Vibrava first appeared in Beg, Burrow and Steal.  Dozens of Trapinch were seen evolving into them at an underground lake.  Team Rocket made a failed attempt to steal the Antlion Pokémon despite the fact the idea Meowth had of using their previous forms as nut-crackers was now foiled.  The Vibrava helped Ash, May, Max, Brock, Hal and Elisa out of the underground labyrinth.

Trivia
Origin
* Vibrava is the only Pokémon whose attack stat is weaker than the Pokémon it evolves from.
On the Origin of Species: Trapinch, Vibrava and Flygon
Origin
Vibrava represents the adult stage of an antlion, though it seems to draw more visual inspiration from mayfly, possibly nodding to the Japanese word for an adult antlion, usuba-kagerou, or "thin-winged mayfly". Combined with an antlion's resemblance to a dragonfly, Vibrava's typing suggests that it may also draw inspiration from Progomphus. Its tendency to create harsh noises with its wings is similar to that of a cicada.
Vibrava is based on the adult stage of an antlion.

Name origin
Name origin
Vibrava's name is probably based on the word vibrate, to shake.
Vibrava may be a combination of vibrate (to shake rapidly) and larva. It may also derive from European dragon#Dragons in Catalan mythology.
