Later she asks {{an|Dawn}} to participate in the Johto Festa. The two girls had a battle but Kotone lost and rewarded Dawn with an {{pkmn|egg}}.

As a rookie Trainer, Lyra was given a {{p|Chikorita}} as her [[first partner Pokémon]]. Together, Lyra was able to challenge and defeat the [[Gym Leader]]s of [[Violet City]] and [[Azalea Town]], thus receiving the [[Badge]]s from those Gyms.


It is implied in [[DP144]] that Kotone has an interest in Ash, though whether it's platonic or a tad romantic remains uncertain. She admires his bravery and wishes that [[Kazunari]] would act more like him. Kotone even asks Dawn if she and Ash are [[PearlShipping|a couple]] though Dawn quickly denies it. In [[DP145]], she attempted to pair [[Kazunari]] and {{an|Dawn}} together as a couple before eventually realizing she had feelings for the former.

She introduced herself as a Trainer from [[Johto]]. She came to [[Sinnoh]] with her friend, [[Khoury]] and [[Khoury's father|his father]] in order to observe the Pokémon residing in the region. Later, she asks {{an|Dawn}} to participate in the [[Johto Festival]]. The two girls had a battle, but Lyra lost and rewarded Dawn with an {{pkmn|Egg}}. At the end of the episode, Lyra and Khoury joined Ash's group because the former wanted to watch the upcoming [[Lilypad Town]] [[Pokémon Contest]] in which Dawn would be participating.  


In [[DP147]], she and Kazunari had a [[tag battle]] against {{Ash}} and {{an|Dawn}} in the {{to|Suiren}} Colosseum. Kazunari was surprised when Kotone chose to go with Chikorita against {{AP|Monferno}} and {{TP|Dawn|Cyndaquil}} who are both {{type2|Fire}}s. But she had confidence in it. It proved to be a strong opponent but it eventually lost to Cyndaquil. Both Kotone and Kazunari lost the battle soon after.
In ''[[DP144|Gone With the Windworks!]]'', Lyra's {{TP|Lyra|Marill}} was lost inside the [[Valley Windworks]]. During the search, the group also got stuck in place, while trying to escape Lyra uses her {{p|Girafarig}} but to no avail. At the end of the day, the group finally managed to get out of the place and continued their journey to Lilypad Town.


Later they headed back to [[Johto]] with [[Kazunari's father]]. Kotone plans on challenging [[Whitney]] and [[Morty]]. Also, upon her request, Kazunari decided to become her traveling buddy. They promised Ash and Dawn that they would see them again.
In ''[[DP145|A Rivalry to Gible On!]]'', Lyra and the others found a wild {{p|Gible}}, after the group decided who will capture it, Khoury managed the feat after several complications along the way.
 
In ''[[DP146|Dressed for Jess Success!]]'', Lyra was finally able to watch the Lilypad Town Pokémon Contest. After Dawn's defeat in the Contest, Lyra joined the others to try to cheer her up.
