Clark was known as "The Conductor", and he used a baton to literally "conduct" his Pokémon in battle. He faced Ash in the third and last of the Trainer's Double Battles. During this battle, Clark sent out his Quilava and Charizard against Ash's Grovyle and Glalie. It appeared that Ash had an overwhelming disadvantage, but he kept his cool. Clark made his Pokémon attack using their various Fire attacks, while Ash had his Pokémon use their best. Eventually, Grovyle defeated Quilava, but ended up getting knocked out by Charizard's Steel Wing.

Using his Glalie, Ash created several ice pillars, preventing Charizard from coming in and attacking directly with its Heat Wave. It also used the pillars to bounce and evade Charizard's moves. Glalie used Headbutt to take the win, allowing Ash to move on to the next round, while Clark was eliminated from the tournament.

|desc=Charizard was used alongside Quilava against Ash's Grovyle and Glalie. Because of its powerful Fire moves, Charizard succeeded in defeating Grovyle. It fought against Glalie next and because of Glalie's strategy of bouncing off the ice pillars,  it confused Charizard and sent it off with a powerful Headbutt attack.

Clark sent out his Quilava and Charizard against Ash's Grovyle and Glalie. It appeared that Ash had an overwhelming disadvantage, but he kept his cool. Clark made his Pokémon attack using their various Fire attacks, while Ash had his Pokémon use their best. Eventually, Grovyle defeated Quilava, but the Grass ended up getting knocked out by Charizard's Heat Wave.
Charizard's known moves are Flamethrower, Steel Wing, and Heat Wave.}}

Using his Glalie, Ash created several columns of ice, preventing Charizard from coming in and attacking directly. *Clark's appearance bears a resemblence to Harry Potter (character).
* Clark shares his two known Pokémon with Ash, although at the time of Clark's appearance, he only shared one, Charizard. Ash's Cyndaquil evolved into Quilava only much later, during the later parts of Pokémon the Series: Diamond and Pearl.
