Spore puts the target to {{status|sleep}}.

Spore cannot affect targets with {{a|Insomnia}} or {{a|Vital Spirit}} as their [[Ability]].

===Generation VI===

{{type|Grass}} Pokémon, Pokémon with {{a|Overcoat}}, and Pokémon holding the {{DL|In-battle effect item|Safety Goggles}} are now immune to Spore.

Spore will also not affect targets with the {{a|Sweet Veil}} Ability, or their allies (including non-adjacent allies).

* Spore is the only sleep-inducing status move with 100% accuracy.

** [[Yawn]] never misses, however, it only causes drowsiness. This means that the sleep effect, which will happen on the next turn, can be prevented by switching out.
