The '''Fire type''' (Japanese: '''ほのおタイプ''' ''Flame type'') is one of the eighteen [[type]]s. Notable Trainers who specialize in Fire-type Pokémon include [[Blaine]] of [[Cinnabar Island]], [[Flannery]] of [[Lavaridge Town]], {{EF|Flint}} of the [[Sinnoh]] [[Elite Four]], [[Chili]], the former [[Gym Leader]] of [[Striaton City]], and [[Malva]] of the [[Kalos]] [[Elite Four]]. Prior to [[Generation IV#Advances in gameplay|changes in Generation IV]], all damaging Fire-type moves were [[special move|special]], but they may now also be [[physical move|physical]] depending on the attack.

The Fire type has its pros and cons defensively. {{t|Ground}}, {{t|Rock}}, and {{t|Water}} moves are all commonly used offensively. Aside from {{t|Fairy}}, {{t|Ice}}, and the Fire type itself, the Fire type's resistances are of little use because the other types which it resists are typically not strong offensively. Most Fire-type Pokémon do not survive too long in battle due to their typically below average defensive stats, unless they are legendary Pokemon, or lack speed and/or good attack. Additionally, all {{p|Reshiram|but}} {{p|Volcanion|two}} Fire-type Pokémon are weak to Water-type attacks, both of which are legendary.

In {{pkmn|Contest}}s, Fire-type moves are typically {{OBP|Beautiful|condition}} moves. None of them are considered {{OBP|Cute|condition}} moves.
