Vee is an Eevee that was experimented on by Team Rocket, thereby gaining the ability to freely change from an Eevee into any of its three Generation I evolutions (Vaporeon, Jolteon, and Flareon) and back.

Vee first appeared in Blame It on Eevee. When Red tried to challenge Erika, she stated that she wouldn't battle him unless he was able to capture a Pokémon of her choice, an Eevee. Red, with the help of Bill, tried to battle Eevee, but for every Pokémon that was sent out Eevee would turn into the Eeveelution that had a type advantage over it. This ability confused both of them at first, but Bill eventually figured out the ability, and Red managed to discover a way to keep Eevee from sensing the type of Pokémon sent out. Red was thus able to capture the Eevee. Realizing that his body had been experimented on to allow such an ability, Red took the Eevee to the Celadon Gym and connected him to a healing machine to allow him to recover. Just then, Erika appeared once again, and feigned being a member of Team Rocket to force Red to fight for him. Despite Poli, Saur, and Pika's best efforts, Erika was able to counter their abilities one by one with her variety of movesets, and then approached Eevee, saying that if she disconnects him now, he would surely take his last breath. Red, evoking his deepest desire to defend the poor Pokémon, had Pika use a Substitute clone to distract Erika while having him guard the healing machine. Erika, impressed with their valiance, revealed herself to be an ally of the "good" Gym Leaders he had met before, and not only awarded Red the Rainbow but also allowed him to keep Eevee, naming him Vee.

Vee was later used in You Know...Articuno! alongside Red's other Pokémon to battle Team Rocket members who were pursuing Articuno in the Seafoam Islands, which they ultimately failed to defend. Soon afterwards, Red sent Vee into storage after restoring Aero in Cinnabar Island. It was later discovered that when Red had sent him to Professor Oak, Vee had been captured by Team Rocket again. Later on, Red rescued Vee in The Winged Legends, after Sabrina had no use for him, as she had now obtained the merged Legendary birds.

In Clefabulous Clefable, Red used Vee to battle Bruno on Cerise Island, taking advantage of his ability to change into his evolutions, which was enhanced through the three Vermilion Harbor evolutionary stones he obtained from Giovanni. Vee starts by evolving into Flareon to counter Bruno's Hitmonchan's Ice Punch. He then evolves into Vaporeon to counter Hitmonchan's next move. Soon Poli and Bruno's Machamp also join the battle which seems even at first. Machamp then removes its belt and knocks both Vee and Poli off of the Onix battleground. Poli's Water Gun proves ineffective, but allows Vee to return via Acid Armor. Vee then evloves into Jolteon and proceeds to defeat Bruno with Pin Missile.

Vee was shown to have permanently evolved into Espeon prior to Forretress of Solitude when being used in Red's test to become Viridian City's Gym Leader. Vee went up against Porygon2 and was hit by its Zap Cannon, reducing his health below half. Red remained confident, and commanded Vee to use Morning Sun, followed by Psychic. This knocked Porygon2 out, winning Red the test. Red later explained to Sabrina that Vee had lost his ability to change into his Fire, Water, and Electric evolutions upon evolving into Espeon. Though he had now become a normal Espeon, Red still preferred him this way because he is no longer burdened by the sufferings of his past any longer.

Vee was later used alongside Red's other Pokémon to battle Team Rocket members who were pursuing Articuno in the Seafoam Islands, which they ultimately failed to defend. Soon afterwards, Red sent Vee into storage after restoring Aero in Cinnabar Island. It was later discovered that when Red had sent him to Professor Oak, Vee had been captured by Team Rocket again. Later on, Red rescued Vee in The Winged Legends, after the evil Sabrina had no use for him, as she had now obtained the merged legendary birds. Two years later, Red also used Vee to battle Bruno on Cerise Island, taking advantage of his ability to change into his evolutions, which was enhanced through the three Vermilion Harbor evolutionary stones he obtained from Giovanni. A combination of its powers as Vaporeon and Jolteon allowed Red to take the win.
In The Last Battle X, Vee had a quick battle against Bruno and his Tyrogue. Vee was able to counter attack his Double Team by using Psych Up before attempting to flee from the fight.

Vee was used on Red's test to become Viridian City's Gym Leader, defeating the last of the Association's Pokémon, Porygon2. It was his first appearance as an Espeon, and although he was not identified as Vee, Red expressed that he clearly had much trust in the Pokémon. Red later explained to Sabrina that the Pokémon was in fact Vee but that he had lost his ability to change into his Fire, Water, and Electric evolutions upon evolving into Espeon. Though it had now become a normal Espeon, Red still preferred it this way that it isn't burdened by the sufferings of his past any longer.

Vee was last seen in Epilogue interacting with Ditty in the Battle Frontier following Guile Hideout's defeat.

Much later, Vee is seen interacting with Ditty in the Battle Frontier following Guile Hideout's defeat.
Personality and characteristics
Due to being experimented on by Team Rocket, Vee developed a mistrust towards humans and would attack any that approached him. After seeing the lengths the Red was willing to go to to protect him Vee warmed up to Red and decided he wanted to stay with him. Vee is also a strong willed and brave Pokémon, shown by his willingness to evolve into his other forms to help Red despite it causing him pain. As an Eevee, Vee has shown the ability to sense a Pokémon's type through his ears. Vee would often use this to his advantage while battling by changing into a different evolution in order to have the type advantage.

In Pokémon Origins
Red uses a Jolteon in the Pokémon Origins mini-series. It is one of his most used Pokémon in the mini-series, being one of the few Pokémon besides his Charizard that he is seen using in more than one episode.

Jolteon first appeared in File 2 - Cubone, where Red sent it out to battle against a Team Rocket Grunt's Koffing at the Pokémon Tower. Thanks to Cubone using Bonemerang to clear Koffing's Smog, Jolteon was able to defeat the Poison Gas Pokémon with a Thunderbolt, forcing the Rockets to retreat.

Red was seen using Jolteon again in File 3 - Giovanni, where he sent it out against Giovanni's Rhyhorn during his Gym battle against the Rocket Boss. However, like Red's Victreebel, Kabutops, and Snorlax before it, Jolteon was defeated before could land a single hit on the Spikes Pokémon.

Red also used Jolteon at the Indigo Plateau in File 4 - Charizard. It first appeared during Red's battle against Lorelei and her Dewgong, presumably defeating its opponent off-screen. Later, during Red's final battle against the Champion, Blue, the Lightning Pokémon was seen facing Blue's Pidgeot before eventually falling to Blastoise's Skull Bash.

In the games
Red uses an Espeon in the Generation II games , as well as in Round 2 of Pokémon Stadium 2. In Round 1 of Stadium 2, he uses a Jolteon.

Trivia
*The Espeon which Red uses in is most likely the Eevee from Celadon City that can be obtained in Generation I, just as Red caught Vee there. However, it is not present in the Generation IV or V games, instead replaced with a Lapras, which is most likely the Lapras that can be obtained at Silph Co. in Generation I.
*Vee is Red's only known Generation II Pokémon, just like Red's Espeon is if Stadium 2 is excluded.
