:::::The game's data can not be edited. Only the save file can be edited. It is nearly impossible that Missingno. could damage your game in that way. However, your game or you Game Boy may have become damaged, but it is highly unlikely. Also realize that Pokemon Red/Blue/Green are black, white, and some shades of gray. The game does not even access palettes. However, if you are using Yellow, it is a little more likely. Also, the person above is right. You can press either A or B and any of the buttons on the control pad to change the palette to the desired one.

Is it possible in Pokémon Red & Blue to catch Missingno. or other non-water Pokémon on the coast near the Power Plant rather than the Cinnabar coast? I broke my Blue (by foolishly using a Game Genie) so I can't test it out. --Libertyernie 19:36, 4 November 2006 (UTC)

:I doubt it. The reason the missingno glitch occurs is that Cinnabar has no Pokemon defined for surf encounters, despite the existance of one stip of water, the coast. As such, the variable for encounters is set at whatever it was last, like the safari zone. Old Man's weedle is either M or Missingno, I forget which. Your other encounters are determined by your name, since that's where the game chooses to store the string while replacing your name with OLD MAN. --1338h4x 00:58, 19 January 2007 (UTC)

::Even if there was no Pokemon data there, it would be defined by the Pokemon on the route before it. The route that you fly to has Pokemon data on it.

I remember back in the day, like... eight years ago? Anyhow, I remember the stories that were circulating around GameFAQs and Pokemon fansites about... well, this and other things, but this one especially. I remember the best being that if you see missingno., you needed to immediately kill it to prevent your game from being fried. I dunno about you guys, but since this was before the internet was really huge, I start selling people khangaskans. Never hurt me, except I lost a file on my Red once. But I had like, ninty kangaskans, so I would trade them to other kids for like, twenty bucks. I was rolling in dough for several weeks. It was great.

:Wow, that is amazing. I wish I knew about Khangaskhan back then! Yes, I love the rumors. The rumors of Missingno. being a "baby Khangaskhan"... All that stuff. good times. :) One time I was in line at Pokemon Rocks America 2006 and I was talking about Missingno. while battling this girl, and the whole line erupted in "It was a baby Khangaskhan!" "No, it was a legendary that got removed!" "No, it was Mewthree!" Remember Beezit?

:Actually, Nintendo spells it "MissingNO".  Notice the lack of a period.  I think they just emphasize the last two letters in an attempt to dissuade players from going after it.  I think its name is rightfully Missingno., and that the page should be moved to reflect this.  If nobody objects, I will do it.  <small>I'm [[User:Missingno. :I spell it as MissingNo. because, I dunno, it just looks better that way. Also, spelling as Missingno. has caused many players on video websites explaining how to capture a MissingNo. to pronounce it as "Mih-sing-noh-dot" rather than the correct "Mih-sing-num-buh" The capital N puts more emphasis on the fact that No. stands for Number, and isn't pronounced as no-dot. (its annoying the way the pronounce the dot!)
So I always spell it as MissingNo. IMO it looks and sounds more accurate.<small>- unsigned comment from Dusknoir477 (talk • contribs) </small>
I spell it missingno. (pokemon arn't proper nouns) at the end to 'no.' is short  for number, as you don't wright 'no 1', it's 'no.1'.

Because, seriously, Missingno. didn't appeared in the anime. Those were ghosts created by Ghastly which was strong enough to confuse Ash's Pokedex. Does Ghastly have a move that can instantly create a Missingno. in the games? I don't think so. >_> Mudkipchan

Does it have a move that can create ghosts instantly?  Didn't think so.  Besides, why do you assume Gastly created them?  For all we know, it could be its minions.

It's a glitch Pokémon, it's there, it's in the game, you can not deny that. There is no problem in having biology for glitch Pokémon, because they are still actual Pokémon. What do you have against game location of Missingno.? Or it's special abilities? There is no problem with them being there. :Nintendo does not consider it a Pokémon, and consensus seems to be that we don't either. We don't need a "gender differences" section for a (glitch) Pokémon that has no gender. True, but that is a more detailed explanation, where as the one Missingno. Master was putting was just simple. If people wanted more information, they could just scroll up/down the page. Yes, Ninetendo doesn't consider it a Pokémon, but the fact of the matter is that t's in the game, and it CAN be used in battle. == A somewhat true Missingno ==
My friend, Darkzero, has discovered a Missingno of sorts in Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum. This one Missingno that I know of having been found is currently stored on my DS; I would clone it, but it's registered as an illegal Pokemon and my AR cable is missing to try and AR another one in somehow. The image for it is an egg in the party menu, but when you select its summary it flickers and disappears momentarily, then returns. It's a level 94, Pokedex number 494 (which is impossible), and has the moves Gravity, Flamethrower, Thunderbolt, and Punishment. It has Wonder Guard and is Normal type, and came to me holding a Heart Scale and infected with Pokerus. Can't level up and can't learn moves, says it was met in Oreburgh at 22, and has a Naughty nature (last one is possibly irrelevant). Oh, and the OT doesn't exist, the line is blank.
SELF EDIT- It has the PC image of the PCbox glitch Pokemon.

Missingno. in Italian Pokèmon Yellow
I am Italian, and the Missingno. I found in Italian Pokèmon Yellow (using the Mew glitch) is quite different from the English version. First of all, its sprite is different from the five showed in this page. Then, its type is "TIPO1/NORMALE, TIPO2/[riga bianca]", which means "TYPE1/NORMAL, TYPE2/[white line]". Furthermore it only knows geloraggio (ice beam) and, when I teach him a new move, it learns two more moves. For example, if i teach uovobomba (egg bomb), it also learn legatutto (bind) and attacco d'ala (wing attack). To prove this, see and .
