Pokémon Database is a Pokémon website started in 2008.

Pokémon Database focuses on main series games with content such as a Pokedex and information on moves, abilities, types and more. It also features a forum-like Q&A section called PokéBase (short for Pokémon Knowledgebase). PokéBase has over 3,000 members and over 15,000 questions.

The site has a Pokémon Showdown! server.

History

The site was founded as a test site in January 2008, only containing a list of Pokémon and some basic details. As more details were added and the design finalized, the site was moved to the domain pokemondb.co.uk in March 2008. The site continued to grow, receiving up to 100 visitors per day.

In March 2010, the site moved to pokemondb.net to have a more global appeal. In April 2010, the Q&A forum PokéBase was set up, proving to be very popular.

In March 2011, due to the international release of Pokémon Black and White, the site had its activity record broken, surpassing 100,000 unique visitors per day. The number of visitors remained high after this rush.

The third redesign of the site was begun in December 2012, around Christmas. The aim of the design was to allow the site to function well on mobile devices. This redesign was launched in July 2013.

Technical

The site is coded in PHP with the CodeIgniter framework, and the database runs on MySQL. The server is Nginx, but was previously Apache. PokéBase is run on Question2Answer.
