While this may or may not be the origin for the English name (depending on how it gets pronounced in the anime, side games, etc), I do think the Japanese origin is simply ''antennae'', since the kana are pronounced de-de-n-'''''ne'''''. If they were transliterating the French ''antenne'', it ought to be simply de-de-n.
