:::Sorry, having reworked the problem I agree. Sorry for wasting your time. I think I read down the wrong line of my tree diagram. Would you agree that there is a 50% chance of getting an item on a given game? Given that P(pick1) = 1/6, P(pick1fails)=5/6 And P(pick2)=2/5. P(wingame)=P(pick1)+P(pick1fails)*P(pick2)=1/6+5/6*2/5=3/6=1/2=50%. Hope you can understand this.  Thank you for your time and for exposing my wrongness.—Beligaronia (talk) 01:43, 16 April 2010 (UTC)

::::This was the part where my own mathematical skills broke down. I don't remember the class covering the additional "knowledge" gained after the first pick (i.e. your second pick isn't 1/5 "random"). What math I guessed at came out to total chances around ~48% (which would indicate that even with proper knowledge of the game you have a greater chance of losing), but then I did it again and came up with a much lower chance (~38%), so I know I'm doing something wrong at that point. I have discussed the above part with a math major (and real whiz), and he agrees that the second choice odds aren't affected by the position of the first choice. But... that's all I've been able to prove at this point. I'll shoot an e-mail at my professor and update when (if) he replies. - Exawatt 02:40, 18 April 2010 (UTC)

I am reviving this because I have proved that there is indeed the 50% chance:
I used Mathematica, assigning P_1 through P_6 to be 1/6, being the chance for each of the 6 tufts of grass to have the item.
PC_* is for selecting tuft 2,3,4,or 5 (here, assume 3)
PE_* is for selecting tuft 1 or 6 (here, assume 1)
PC_get1 = 1/6 is the chance of getting the object on the first try. It is equal to P_3
PC_near = 2/6 is the chance of choosing the tuft next to the object. It is P_2 + P_4
PC_far = 3/6 is the chance that the object is at least 2 tufts away. It is P_1 + P_5 + P_6
PC_get2 = 2/6 is the chance of getting the object on the second try. It is 1/2 * PC_near + 1/3 * PC_far, because there is one object in two or three tufts if you are near or far respectivly.
PC_get = 3/6 = 1/2 is the chance of getting the object. It is PC_get1 + PC_get2
PE_get1 = 1/6
PE_near = 1/6
PE_far = 4/6
PE_get2 = 3/6 = 1/1 PE_near + 1/4 PE_far because there is one object in one tuft if you got near, or 1 object in 4 tufts if you got far
PE_get = 3/6 = 1/2
I did not refer to Exowatt's formula to write this one. Unless someone can prove that there is not an equal chance for wherever you start, I am adding this fact to the article. --TruePikachu 00:31, 4 December 2010 (UTC)
::Agreed with above, it is always 1/2 or 50% odds (assuming the hints are used). Another example/display of the math:

The thing is apparently waterproof
I'm not about to test it again to be certain, but I'm pretty sure mine survived the washer and dryer. Can't think of any other reason I would have found it in the pocket of a clean pair of pants with the back unscrewed and the battery missing, at least. Still works. I found a battery (possibly the same one) and everything was fine, I even had a few hundred watts in there.
If more proof is gained I think it's a point to add to the article, that all isn't lost for a laundered walker.
Funny how Nintendo's cheap hardware is bulletproof, and yet my DS Lite has a broken hinge, nonfunctional shoulder buttons and odd streaks of red tint across the top screen. What did I do to cause these damages? I just played it...BP 05:09, 9 January 2011 (UTC)
:The Pokéwalker instructions has a sheet that warns about water. I will scan it later. For now, I will quote it:
::<big>Important:</big>
::Do not immerse the PokéwalkerTM accessory in liquid
::The Pokéwalker accessory is designed to be moisture resistant but is not moisture-proof. Immersion in water or other liquids or exposure to excessive moisture may cause a malfunction and permanent damage to the Pokéwalker.
::If you attach the Pokéwalker to your clothes or keep it in your pocket, be sure to remove it before washing your clothes.
::*Be sure and check your clothes before laundering
::*Be sure and remove the Pokéwalker from your clothes when not playing the game.
:...it goes on a little bit more, but that is the important part. There is also a picture of a Pokéwalker going in a washing machine and the words "DO NOT WASH!" in a circle with a line through it.
:Also, Nintnendo's consoles are nuke proof. :Unfortunately, when you lose it, the Pokémon on it will stay as well. After weeks not using the Pokéwalker I decided to bring on a Stroll without a Pokémon, but then I realised that there was a Pokémon in there! The Sentret I don't remember sending it to device. When I arrived home this happenned: The Pokéwalker generated a Pokémon! Has this aver happened before with somebody, after two years owning I was got by surprise. I think it is a rare case like the Shinies and the all-31 IV. Should this image despite its state being put on the article and my case too? Have this ever happened to someone before?
