==Performing the glitch==
To perform the glitch, one must go to the GTS with the Pokémon to be evolved through trade, as well as the proper item on said Pokémon if necessary. Deposit the Pokémon into the GTS, asking for something that will likely not be traded over, such as a level 9 and under legendary. Then, do a trade in the search mode of the GTS. It can be any trade. After that, check the status of the Pokémon. Back out of the screen that shows up, and if all is going well, "Deposit Pokémon" will appear in the place of the option to check the Pokémon's status. At this point, leave and re-enter the GTS. When you get back, take out the deposited Pokémon, and it should evolve.

==A True Glitch?==
There is, however, a theory that this may have been a feature added deliberately by the developers to cater towards trainers who wanted to evolve their Pokémon without the risk of losing them to an unscrupulous trading partner
