Pokémon language (Japanese: 語 language) is the medium by which Pokémon communicate in the anime.

In the anime, most Pokémon will only say their names, and will communicate using those syllables. However, many other Pokémon are able to only screech or roar. Humans normally can't understand Pokémon language, but Pokémon are constantly shown to be able to understand human language from birth. Pokémon are also shown to be able to learn human language. One clear example of this in the anime is Team Rocket's Meowth. Other Pokémon are shown to be able to communicate using telepathy. For example, in Do I Hear a Ralts?, a Ralts telepathically communicates with Max to get help. Another example is shown in the movie Lucario and the Mystery of Mew. Lucario is able is to communicate with humans and other Pokémon using telepathy. The anime does not touch upon the subject of Pokémon speech too much and hence, not much can be known about it. For example, it seems that different species of Pokémon are able to understand each other, but due to some references to particular "Meowth language" and other specific Pokémon language, it is currently unknown whether each Pokémon species shares a common language or has a different language of its own.
