Masters

Thank you for adding the names of the moves in other languages as well as the romanizations, but I've noticed a number of typos in some of the names added. Instead of manually typing the characters, please feel free to check the names from the available text dumps. --超龍Chao 03:19, 3 August 2021 (UTC)

I guess I've been doing these the hard way, huh...

No matter, thanks for pointing that out to me. I can go over all character pages that haven't already been fixed & grab from the text dump for any new ones. Are there any other games with text dumps that need language sections added to the wiki?

Romanization

Please don't go off changing the format of romanizations of the character names just yet. Some of the spellings are the official spellings used in merchandise (e.g. Huuro, Red, Leaf, etc.), which would take precedence over standard romanization. With regards to phonological changes in Korean names of characters (Bitna/Binna, Geumrang/Geumnang, etc.), they can be ignored as prescribed by Revised Romanization of Korean for better disambiguation. --超龍Chao 01:52, 2 September 2022 (UTC)

"Just yet"? Are you guys planning on doing an overhaul of the Languages section?

(Also, somewhat related, but personally speaking I'd rather have the romanization be a hover over the script rather than off to the side. I've only been doing it the way I have because that appeared to be the way you guys did things around here) Yug Guy (talk) 02:27, 2 September 2022 (UTC)

There's a policy being proposed, but the details still needed to be worked upon given the several languages involved with loanwords in particular complicating the matter. Characters, locations, moves, and other terminologies also have different standards with the varying degrees of transcriptions and translations involved. Names of Pokémon are more strict with standards given there are trademark spellings that are available, while romanization of character names are a bit more lax.
Generally speaking, native words would follow the usual standard. But given that this is an English wiki, it's preferred to use the original spelling when English loanwords are involved, e.g. シティ and 시티 are to be rendered as City instead of the literal Shiti and Siti. As for loanwords from other languages, it would usually follow the spelling of said language or standard romanization for languages not using the Latin alphabet.
Granted, it's quite confusing due to the mixed use of native words and loanwords along with differing standards of whether to romanize or translate. There's also a bit of an issue regarding the hover-over script as they don't work for mobile version of the site. --超龍Chao 03:07, 2 September 2022 (UTC)
Got it. I was not aware of the policy debate. I guess I'll keep an eye on it for now & wait for the final judgement. Yug Guy (talk) 03:33, 2 September 2022 (UTC)
