About Ting-Lu

This is like the 3rd time you've removed the "based on the moose/elk" thing from Ting-Lu's page and i gotta ask: Why? Moose and elks are large deer (moose are the largest deer in fact); Ting-Lu is a really large deer and has the appearance of either of them, especially with its vessel mimicking the moose's wide antlers. Yes the Pere David's deer is native to China, but i think it should not discount the other deer species Ting-Lu may be based on. Anzasquiddles (talk) 04:57, 7 January 2023 (UTC)

I don't see anything about Ting-Lu suggesting a Moose. Ting-Lu has very thin, spindly antlers that don't resemble a Moose at all. Moose also have nothing to do with Iberia and are barely found in China. Yes, Moose are big deer but I don't see anything beyond that connecting it to Ting-Lu. Pere David's Deer are a very big part of Chinese myth and as such it makes perfect sense for a Chinese deer Pokemon to be based on a Pere David's Deer. Ting-Lu's color is also much closer to a Pere David's Deer than a Moose, and its antler and cow-like body shapes are closer as well.

In summary, yes, Ting-Lu does superficially resemble a Moose, but only in the fact that Ting-Lu and Moose are both big deer. Its main (animal) inspiration is primarily a Pere David's Deer, possibly with some influence from an elk/wapiti. I see nothing to suggest a Moose as an origin. The way i see it, i think the vessel counts as part of Ting-Lu's antlers too, hence why i think it resembles the moose and elk (which have really large bowl-like antlers, the moose especially). But yeah fair enough. I did add an addendum that the Pere David's deer is native to China. Anzasquiddles (talk) 05:01, 22 January 2023 (UTC)
