Orange Archipelago Butterfree (オレンジ アーキペラゴ バタフリー Orenji Ākiperago Butterfree) is an anime-exclusive regional form of Butterfree native to the Orange Archipelago.

Appearance

Unlike normal Butterfree, Orange Archipelago Butterfree appear to have a light shade of orange color for their wings and two orange spots close to the bottom of both their wings.

In the anime

Orange Archipelago Butterfree made their debut in the episode Poké Ball Peril. An Orange Archipelago Butterfree was first seen hanging from a tree at Professor Ivy's facility, appearing to be in distress. Professor Ivy told Ash, Misty, and Brock that the Butterfree hadn't eaten in days. Noticing that the Butterfree seemed to be attracted to sweet things, Brock created a mashed-up berry recipe that it ended up liking. This same Orange Archipelago Butterfree would be seen landing on Brocks arm later during the episode. The same Orange Archipelago Butterfree would again be seen during a flashback in the episode A Tent Situation.

In the episode Snack Attack, Orange Archipelago Butterfree were seen during a story told by Ruby. During the flashback, Ruby explained that she brought over these Butterfree to her island from neighboring islands when her Grapefruit trees began to blossom.

In The Mandarin Island Miss Match, Ash's Bulbasaur defeated a trainer's Orange Archipelago Butterfree with Razor Leaf at the beginning of the episode. After being defeated, the trainer returned it to its Poké Ball and ran off.

In the animated short Slowking's Day, an Orange Archipelago Butterfree appears to take a sip of nectar from a red flower while Slowking took a nap.

Trivia

  • Although they only appear in the anime series, Orange Archipelago Butterfree could be considered to be one of the first regional forms to have appeared in the Pokémon series.
