Don't know if this will amount to anything, but I thought this would be a cool article.

Pokémon fusion is a mechanic introduced in Generation V that allows two Pokémon to combine. Fusions are performed with a key item obtained by the player during the game's story. Each fusion involves one host Pokémon and one that is removed from the party until the fusion is undone. The resulting Pokémon is considered a form change for the host, retaining its level, Poké Ball, held item, game of origin, personality value, IVs, EVs, nickname, OT, Trainer ID number, secret ID number, met location, and Pokérus while increasing its base stats, altering its movepool, and in some cases, changing its typing.

Each key item involved in fusion can only be used on one pair of eligible Pokémon at a time. As such, it is impossible for the player to own, for example, two Black Kyurem at once, or to have both an Ice Rider Calyrex and a Shadow Rider Calyrex on the same save file. In addition, fused Pokémon cannot be traded, released, or deposited into Pokémon Bank or Pokémon HOME until separated into their constituent Pokémon.

There are three Pokémon with form changes accessible via fusion, each able to fuse with two different Pokémon. Currently, all Pokémon able to participate in fusion are Legendary Pokémon.
