A explanation for canon, difference between TV and film
Good night, to all, i'm here to discuting the canon between the films and TV show, like other franchise as the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Star Wars and My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic also have TV shows and films with canon, the process in both entertaiment forms is different.
In the MCU, in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., the first TV series in the franchise. with many references to the films and another TV series to come, had few episodes tie-in with the films, mostly the episode Turn, Turn, Turn (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.), tie-in with Captain America: The Winter Soldier film, what many fans mostly thinks change the series for good.
In Pokémon happens something similar, with some episodes referencing the films, for example:
Mewtwo Strikes Back: The Battle of the Badge, It's Mr. Mime Time, Showdown at the Po-ké Corral
The Power of One: The Mystery is History
Lucario and the Mystery of the Mew: Pokémon Ranger and the Kidnapped Riolu! (Part 1), Pokémon Ranger and the Kidnapped Riolu! (Part 2)
The Rise of Darkrai: Sleepless In Pre-Battle!
Genesect and the Legend Awakened: Meowth, Colress and Team Rivalry!
But in both MCU and Pokémon, the films never references the TV show(s), an good example in the Pokémon movies is the narrator in the introduction never mentions the Ash's main goal (besides the increasingly distant dream to be Pokémon Master) in every region where he's travelling, the partipates in the regional Pokémon League.
The other films never mentioned in the TV show, similar with the My Little Pony TV show to the My Little Pony: Equestria Girls.
My point is the 19 films premiered are some kind canon, more evidence the Pokémon parties of the main characters, the upcoming film isn't canon is more a re-telling how Ash started as Pokémon Trainer and commemoring the 20th anniversary of the animated series, only said all of this to change a bit the part Relation to the main anime when the movie premieres. Good night.
