"to catch Pokémon that have a hidden ability or to items."

Is this missing a word and/or a typo? Luna Tiger * the Arc Toraph 14:57, 6 July 2012 (UTC)
It is missing a word. It should say something along the lines of "to catch Pokémon that have a hidden ability or to obtain items". I will fix this in a little bit unless someone else gets to it first. Lady Ariel (talk) 15:01, 6 July 2012 (UTC)

Items

Since I'm pretty sure that most of the items besides the stones stay the same between the Hidden Hollows, perhaps it would be better to list the items that are available in all of them, and then only have the ones that change listed under each section? --It's Funktastic~! (talk) 21:57, 20 July 2012 (UTC)

I think that their should be a items section that lists the items that are available in all of the hollows, and keep the additional item section under the contents which would list only the stones. I would also say a note should be added under the items section that states that these items are found in all of the hollows. As a result the size would be greatly reduced and the article would be considerably shorter and neater. Is anyone against this idea and what other opinions are there? English name

Just got the latest issue of Nintendo Power, and it refers to Hidden Hollows as hidden grottos. - unsigned comment from Missingno. Master (talkcontribs) 19:14, 29 August 2012 (UTC)

I don't know how this usually works, but could you provide an image of proof? Unless someone else can confirm this. Lady Ariel (talk) 22:09, 30 August 2012 (UTC)
I don't have an image, either, but I have the NP issue, too, and it says Hidden Grotto. TorchicBlaziken (talkedits) 03:08, 31 August 2012 (UTC)

Spawning different items and/or Pokemon

When does the item/Pokemon get spawned by the game? I tried resetting before going in, but I kept getting a Gooey Mulch. I'm currently at the one at Lostlorn Forest, by the way. --Jdthebud (talk) 01:28, 11 October 2012 (UTC)

I'm guessing once you take the 256 steps, and it decides whether there will be anything in the Hidden Grotto, it decides what it will be. Could be wrong though.--It's Funktastic~! (talk) 15:06, 11 October 2012 (UTC)
Funfest Mission seems to override that as I had mission to defeat/capture 1 Pokémon in Grotto. The mission was successful, and the Grotto got empty. I got next mission, re-entered the Grotto and found Glameow inside (Pokémon seems to be mission-related or something). Marked +-+-+ (talk) 15:26, 11 October 2012 (UTC)

Eevee

I've heard that Eevee can be found in every Hidden Grotto. If this is true, it should be included on this page in it's own section, maybe before or after all the specific location pokemon lists. --Jdthebud (talk) 09:28, 7 November 2012 (UTC)

It has been decided that Eevee was to be removed until proof could be provided it does exist, because it is not listed in any official guides and I have yet to find one in the Grotto (which I did during the Japanese release). Lady Ariel 00:32, 8 November 2012 (UTC)

Move

Is a possible translation for a dungeon's name really important enough to start disambiguating Hidden Grotto? I personally think that since this is main series, it can be placed at a non-disabiguated title with the {{samename}} template at the top of this. --Abcboy (talk) 02:12, 9 January 2013 (UTC)

Route 5 Grotto

Is it worth mentioning that the Grotto on Route 5 always has a Minccino on the first visit? Schiffy (talk) 18:18, 18 January 2013 (UTC)

No that is just what your game generated the contents does not change by resetting.Pug6666 (talk) 23:13, 8 February 2013 (UTC)

Pokemon spawn rates

For the rarity of pokemon in hidden grottos, it's just listed as "Rare," "Common," etc. Can we include a numeric value to show the actual odds of a pokemon in a hidden grotto being a certain pokemon? Draexzhan (talk) 21:28, 22 January 2013 (UTC)

The game gets 2 random numbers. rand(4) tells it which table to choose from (four total). Then it does rand(100) to determine what the player will encounter. The Encounter Table's first Pokémon has a 1% chance of being present, if that table was chosen by the first rand(4). So essentially you can divide the encounter percent by 4 to get the chance of that table&slot happening. There's duplicates in the table (to increase the chance of them appearing..) so you can just sum up the %.
The encounter rates are 1%/4%/15% for Pokemon (net 20%), 1%/4%/10%/25% (net 40%) for a Pokéball item, and 1%/4%/10%/25% (net 40%) for a hidden item.
So for example, Heracross in B2 has a 1%/4 chance of appearing (0.25%), which is very rare! Smogon has a guide which goes into a different amount of detail. I'm far too lazy to manually write all of the odds for each location :P Kaphotics (talk) 00:34, 18 July 2013 (UTC)

Pokemon Genders Fixed

Is the gender of the pokemon set when it spawns in a grotto? I was trying to get Bagon in the Pinwheel Forest outside grotto, and went to the inside one at first which had a Breloom (50/50 ratio) in it. Tried to get a Breloom♀, but after 20 soft resets it was only coming up ♂, so I just caught it and moved on. After spending an hour at the outside grotto Bagon spawned (50/50 ratio again). Again trying to get Bagon♀, went through about 100 soft resets, every time it was ♂. --Fenixdown (talk) 18:05, 27 March 2013 (UTC)

Genders are set when the Pokémon species is spawned (set by an RNG) in a grotto, so there is no use soft resetting. The moment the grotto is filled, you're locked in on that result until it is cleared. Kaphotics (talk) 00:36, 18 July 2013 (UTC)

Evolution stones?

I've noticed that there's several Hidden Grottoes listed in this page as spawning evolution stones that don't have them on their corresponding location pages, specifically:

I took a quick glance at the histories for a few of the pages. Some used to have the stones in their item listing but had them removed at some point, while others never seemed to have them in the first place, so I'm not sure which is right.--Cold (talk) 04:49, 20 April 2017 (UTC)

Condition to spawn

My observations seem to indicate that the content of the grotto may only respawn when you're in the same location of the corresponding grotto. Can anyone confirm whether or not this is the case? If it is, it should also be added to the article. Suic12- (talk) 00:55, 20 March 2019 (UTC)
