Humans are a species of lifeform that live in the Pokémon world. They are found in all regions barring those used as the setting for Mystery Dungeon games and Pikachu's Adventure, although games in the Mystery Dungeon series feature once-human protagonists as well as Pokémon that were once human, e.g., Gengar, the leader of Team Meanies. The Pokémon anime and games revolve around the relationship between humans and their Pokémon.

Unlike the relationship between humans and animals in the real world, the one between humans and Pokémon is almost universally portrayed as one of complete genetic distinction. It's never been stated how humans and Pokémon are related to one another except a few Sinnoh myths, where it is mentioned that humans and Pokémon once coexisted as a single species. Humans in the Pokémon world also seem to have similar behavioral characteristics to actual humans, both in the anime and games, where they often featured as both the main protagonists and the main antagonists.

Humans are the dominant species in the Pokémon world and have achieved a level of technology unparalleled by any other species on the planet. Much of human technology appears to be based around the concept of human-Pokémon relations; this technology includes the ubiquitous Poké Ball as well as teleportation and data transfer systems designed to store and move captured Pokémon at their Trainer's convenience. Humans have also created artificial Pokémon, such as Porygon, a product of artificial intelligence programming and light manipulation, and Mewtwo, a powerful clone of Mew. Apparently this knack for technology has been in use since ancient times since there are many examples of lost civilizations that had access to this kind of technology as well.

In terms of physical characteristics, The humans of the Pokémon world are similar to humans of the real world, and a similar genetic diversity. The major differences being natural hair and eye color, which could be virtually any color of the rainbow. The humans of the Pokémon World are also seemingly capable of withstanding physical trauma that would seriously hurt or kill a real person, such as being burned, frozen or electrically shocked. A few individuals are even capable of displaying abilities that are well beyond normal human ability, such as Psychic or Aura powers.

The human culture of the Pokémon world, much like the technology, is depicted as revolving around Pokémon. With Pokémon research and care being important matters and Pokémon Battling being the main pastime. Facilities such as Pokémon Centers, Pokémon Gyms and even entire arenas and stadiums have been built for interaction with Pokémon. So important are Pokémon to humans that they were revered, even outright worshiped in certain parts of the world, especially legendary Pokémon, which are so named because they play important roles in myths and legends. However, this fascination with Pokémon hasn't always been benevolent; various people have tried to use Pokémon to gain power, their motives vary from simply making money to world domination, often at the expense of the well being of Pokémon, other people or even the very world itself. This isn't always the case as humans are just as capable of doing good as they are of doing evil, and are able to see the errors of their ways.
