Trivia

  • Bayleef is the tallest of any of the middle evolutions of the starters.
  • In Generation II front sprites, the hole in its leaf is at the top. In later generations, the front sprites change this to be in the bottom of the leaf. Only the front sprites are affected; the back sprites always show the hole on the same side of the leaf.
  • Like Chikorita, Bayleef's Pokémon Gold and Silver sprites show it having a peach body while it's official artwork and later sprites show it having a yellow body.

Origin

This Pokémon is based on sauropods, most notably the apatosaurus.

Name origin

Bayleef's name is a misspelling of the word bay leaf. Its German name, Lorblatt, comes from Lorbeere and Blatt. Its French name, Macronium, comes from macro, big, and géranium.
