Weezing (Japanese: マタドガス Matadogas) is a Poison-type Pokémon.

Pokédex entries

Pokémon Red and Blue / Pokémon LeafGreen
Where two kinds of poison gases meet, 2 Koffings can fuse into a Weezing over many years.
Pokémon Yellow
It lives and grows by absorbing dust, germs and poison gases that are contained in toxic waste and garbage.
Pokémon Gold
If one of the twin Koffing inflates, the other one deflates. It constantly mixes its poisonous gases.
Pokémon Silver
Top-grade perfume is made using its internal poison gases by diluting them to the highest level.
Pokémon Crystal
When it inhales poisonous gases from garbage, its body expands, and its insides smell much worse.
Pokémon Ruby
Weezing loves the gases given off by rotted kitchen garbage. This Pokémon will find a dirty, unkept house and make it its home. At night, when the people in the house are asleep, it will go through the trash.
Pokémon Emerald
By diluting its toxic gases with a special process, the highest grade of perfume can be extracted. To Weezing, gases emanating from garbage are the ultimate feast.
Pokémon FireRed
Very rarely, a sudden mutation can result in two small Koffing twins becoming conjoined as a Weezing.

Name origin

Weezing's name is a corruption of the word wheezing. The mata in Matadogas may be 又, again, which when combined with dogas implies that it is a doubling of Koffing, whose Japanese name is Dogars. Its name is also based on the English word gas. The French and German names are doublings of Koffing's German and French names.

Considering its looks, its ability to float, and its tendency to explode, it may have been based upon a floating naval mine.

Weezing was originally going to have the name "LA", the abbreviation of Los Angeles.

In the anime

James's Koffing evolved into Weezing during EP031. James's Weezing left with Jessie's Arbok to protect a group of Koffing and Ekans that were freed from the captivity of a Pokémon Poacher in AG006.

Ash used a Weezing in a Pokémon League Entrance Exam in EP056.

In the TFG

One Weezing figure has been released.

Other appearances

Super Smash Brothers Melee

When released from a Pokéball, Weezing will emit Poison Gas that juggles any opponent who comes near it.

Weezing is also a Pokéfloat. It appears as Chikorita leaves. Once Slowpoke appears, it will slowly deflate and move to the top of the screen.
