Ice Ball (Japanese: アイスボール Ice Ball) is a damage-dealing Ice-type move introduced in Generation III. Prior to Generation VI, it was the signature move of Spheal's evolutionary line.

Effect

Generations III to VII

Ice Ball inflicts damage over five turns, doubling in power for each consecutive hit; the power will reset after five turns or if Ice Ball is interrupted. Ice Ball's power is doubled in addition if the user had previously used Defense Curl. Pokémon with Bulletproof are immune to Ice Ball.

Hitting a Mimikyu in Disguised Form will produce the Rollout storage glitch.

Ice Ball can also be used as part of a Pokémon Contest combination, with the user gaining extra three appeal points if move Hail was used in the prior turn. It is also a Contest Spectacular combination, with the user gaining an extra three appeal points if Defense Curl was used in the prior turn.

Generation VIII

In Pokémon Sword and Shield and Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, Ice Ball cannot be selected in a battle.

In Pokémon Legends: Arceus, Ice Ball inflicts damage and causes the user to become fixated on using the move.

In Red Rescue Team and Blue Rescue Team, Ice Ball is a move with 1 base power, 68% accuracy, and 15 PP. It damages an enemy in front of the user while cutting corners, attacking 5 times; the move will end early as soon as a single hit misses. Each hit after the first one has a damage multiplier of 1.5x, 2x, 2.5x, and finally 3x. This move's base critical hit rate is lower than normal, at 2%.

In Explorers of Time, Darkness and Sky, the move's accuracy has been decreased to 45%. The damage multiplier now increases by 0.1x for each hit.
