By creating your account you are now able to edit pages, join discussions, and expand the community-driven Pokémon encyclopedia. Before you jump in, here are some ground rules:

  • Be nice to everyone. It's in the code of conduct.
  • Make good edits. Preview them before you save to make sure they're perfect the first time around.
  • Use wikicode and link templates when adding content to a page.
  • Use proper grammar and spelling, and read the manual of style.
  • You can't create a userpage until you've added to the encyclopedia. It's a privilege. See the userspace policy.
  • Use talk pages to resolve editing disputes. Don't "edit war," or constantly re-edit/undo the same thing on a page.
  • If you have a question about something, be proactive. Take a look at our FAQ. If you're still stuck, ask for help. The staff won't bite.
  • Sign all talk page posts with four tildes (~~~~). This will turn into your name and the time you wrote the comment.
  • For more handy links, see the welcome portal.
Thank you, and have a good time editing here!

The Preview Button

Instead of editing a page several times in a row, try using the preview button to make sure your edit looks the way you want it to. It's right next to the Save Page button. Please try it out, so as not to clog up the Recent Changes. Also, if you want to edit multiple sections of the page, make sure that you click "edit this page" at the top of the page rather than editing it by section. Thanks! --Mr. Daikon (talk) 04:37, 21 June 2020 (UTC)

Thanks, I will do from now on! Gameskiller01 (talk) 05:00, 21 June 2020 (UTC)

As a rule, new templates must be created in the userspace and approved before being used. I will move the templates you have created to your userspace for now. Tiddlywinks (talk) 21:39, 21 June 2020 (UTC)

Thanks, I created new ones in my userspace and blanked the templates I re-created after I found that they didn't work anymore (before I saw this message). Out of curiosity, how long does it take usually for a template to be approved? Gameskiller01 (talk) 21:59, 21 June 2020 (UTC)
When you think you have what you need, you probably want to ask someone about them. After that, it can depend... Tiddlywinks (talk) 22:15, 21 June 2020 (UTC)
Ok, so who and what do I ask about them? Sorry, I'm completely new to this. All of them should be ready already as they're simply slight edits to existing templates. Gameskiller01 (talk) 22:46, 21 June 2020 (UTC)
You ask if they're good to go or if they need any changes or whatever. You can ask roughly anyone on staff; but if you can know who's active with the stuff you're trying to make a template for, it'd be smart to start there. Tiddlywinks (talk) 22:56, 21 June 2020 (UTC)
Ok, thank you! Gameskiller01 (talk) 23:00, 21 June 2020 (UTC)

Blanking pages

Hi, just so you're aware, you can use {{delete}} to indicate that a page should be deleted rather than blanking it. Thanks! Mr. Daikon (talk) 01:07, 22 June 2020 (UTC)

Thanks, I have done! Gameskiller01 (talk) 01:10, 22 June 2020 (UTC)

Friend Safari

I don't think Friend Safari should be "merged" on List of Pokémon by availability. I didn't realize what was going on, but I'm pretty sure the page had FS separate because you can't just start up the game and get anything from the Friend Safari; it was separate because you need someone else. Tiddlywinks (talk) 13:40, 22 June 2020 (UTC)

That is true, but that's also why I denoted the Pokémon caught through Friend Safari with an "S" in the list, so that anyone looking through can clearly see which Pokémon come from the Friend Safari and which are in the rest of the game. I just didn't think it made sense separate as it's not it's own game, it's a part of X & Y. That meant that most of it didn't make sense, such as the "T" for Pokémon that couldn't be caught in the Friend Safari - how are you meant to trade to the Friend Safari? You don't, you trade to X & Y. Same goes for "B" and "E" - you don't breed or evolve in the Friend Safari, you breed or evolve in X & Y. Plus, with services like Friend Safari Exchange and Safaricode, anyone with an internet connection can realistically catch anything they want in the Friend Safari. And for those that want to avoid it, they can easily do so by simply avoiding the Pokémon denoted by "S", like I said. Those are just my thoughts on it at least, though I'd love to hear any counter-arguments that you may have. Gameskiller01 (talk) 13:59, 22 June 2020 (UTC)
I don't feel like Trade would mean "Trade with the Friend Safari".
From a big picture point of view, the Friend Safari is like an unlimited trade for specific Pokemon. Looking at trading simply, it requires another person; so does the Friend Safari. (Catching whatever's natively in your game...does not at all.) You point out that it's easy to find Friend Codes for the Friend Safari online, but it's also relatively easy to find regular trades too. (I'll give you that maybe the latter is a bit more complicated to coordinate--give or take getting the third Pokemon in the FS.)
At best...I could maybe concede that removing the column is okay; but it's not in the game the same way Route 2 Pokemon are, it's far closer to a trade. That is, "S" should not produce a colored-in cell like "C" and such, it should be unfilled like "T". (And have the same priority. Like in-game methods overriding trades/events.)
Actually, that last part is probably a good reason the FS should remain separate. The Friend Safari is a way to get Hidden Abilities. If they're all in their own column, you can see all those possibilities easily. But if you fold them into the XY columns, then you've got things like Ivysaur where being obtainable by evolution in-game means the Friend Safari method should never be seen. In this light, I think the FS would still be better as its own column. Tiddlywinks (talk) 23:33, 23 June 2020 (UTC)
Those are definitely some valid points. Personally, I do agree that Pokémon that can be caught in-game should have priority over the Friend Safari, but I do think that the Friend Safari should have priority over Pokémon that have to be evolved or bred from a Pokémon that can be caught in-game. The reason being, if a Pokémon in an evolution line is marked as being caught (or received) in-game, then anyone viewing can fairly easily infer that their prevolutions and evolutions can be bred for and evolved. Whereas if "E" took priority over "S", they wouldn't be able to tell that the Pokémon was available in the Friend Safari and would think they had to evolve to get it, which could be problematic for people doing something like a no evolution run, where they try to obtain as many Pokémon as possible without evolving any of them. As for the Hidden Abilities, separate lists of all the Pokémon that can be caught in the Friend Safari already exist, both on this site and on others, and surely that would be the first place someone would go if that was what they were looking for. The way I view this list is that it's primary purpose is for PokéDex / Living Dex completion, and that it should simply show people what Pokémon are available in each game, and through what method. So, using the Ivysaur example again, I feel like this list should show that Ivysaur is available in X & Y through the Friend Safari, and since it also shows that you receive a Bulbasaur in X & Y people can then easily infer that Ivysaur can also be obtained by evolving the Bulbasaur.
However, with all that said, I do feel like a compromise can be reached (especially since it would take quite a lot of effort to add the column back in at this point). I propose that "FS", "FSE" and "FSB" should be added to the "Not obtainable in-game" section and be used in the X & Y columns to denote Pokémon that can only be caught in the Friend Safari, and, given that they'd be in the "Not obtainable in-game" section, they'd have a lower priority than all methods in the "Obtainable in-game" section. Gameskiller01 (talk) 01:16, 24 June 2020 (UTC)
I'm just a little confused. You said, more or less, that you don't want Ivysaur to change. (And I think it should.) So, you're just suggesting adding something...for cases not like Ivysaur? A half-and-half solution like that doesn't help...
What I'm concerned with is the consistency of the page's own logic. I just realized that there's EV in the in-game legend, for in-game events from distributed items. This is a good match for the case with Friend Safari. They're catchable in-game, but not without some kind of "help". And in the tables, EV cells are not filled in.
The thing that addresses both our concerns (FS is closer to trade; but people should still be able to understand what they can do for a living dex) is having the Friend Safari column... I understand it's a lot of work to undo. (I could do it if you don't want to.) And I understand that you put a lot of time into it. (But I also notified you as soon as I noticed. And you went ahead and continued your work.) But...there is a solution here that satisfies our actual concerns outside of "regret". Tiddlywinks (talk) 02:54, 24 June 2020 (UTC)
Sorry, I should've been clearer. When I used the Ivysaur example I was talking about how I would personally like it, which is how it is now. But the proposal I came up with would indeed affect all Pokémon, and is not meant to be a half-and-half solution. This means that Ivysaur would indeed change back to the "E", since that would take priority over the proposed "FS". It's Pokémon like Clefairy that would have the "FS", since the only way of obtaining it outside of trading is through the Friend Safari. Cleffa would have "FSB" while Clefable would have "FSE". These could definitely be added to the "Obtainable in-game" section but not colour in the boxes, just like "EV". Gameskiller01 (talk) 05:40, 24 June 2020 (UTC)
Okay. Then that works for me.
I'll also mention, the legend gets kinda bloated. If the Symbol column listed, say, "Ev, EvE, EvB" and then the Meaning column just tacked on something like "EvE: such a Pokemon can be evolved, EvB: it can be bred" to the main description, that might simplify things a bit. Tiddlywinks (talk) 05:59, 24 June 2020 (UTC)
OK, thanks. I've made the edits. I also tried to de-clutter the key, though I'm not sure I did the best job of it so feel free to edit as you see fit. Gameskiller01 (talk) 08:03, 24 June 2020 (UTC)
