The following is a list of areas & items in DPPt that are initially beyond your reach but become accessible later after obtaining the appropriate HMs and/or the National Pokédex. Note that this does not list areas that are only visited after a needed HM is (or should have been) obtained.

• secret cavern in Wayward Cave containing Gible (Strength is not needed in Platinum.)

• Iron on Route 207 (accessed from within Mt. Coronet with Surf and Rock Climb)
• Hiker Alexander and a hidden Iron^DP/Star Piece^Pt on Route 208 (Rock Smash is also needed)
• move tutor, Dragon Tamer, and hidden Calcium (Platinum only) & Nugget on Route 210
• Full Incense in Veilstone City
• various items on Route 213
• various items at Hotel Grand Lake
• various items on the east side of Route 211 (Rock Smash is also needed)
• various items and trainers on Route 216
• almost all of the rest of Mt. Coronet

Waterfall (with Surf)

• Meadow Plate and Wave Incense on Route 210
• Carbos on Route 208
• cavern in Mt. Coronet containing a Stone Plate^DP or the Adamant and Lustrous Orbs^Pt (Rock Climb is also needed)

After Obtaining the National Pokédex

Most of these also require defeating the Elite Four first.

• See Cresselia on Fullmoon Island and cause her to start roaming
• Pal Park
• Dual-slot/dongle mode
• Battle Zone (other than just the Fight Area)
  • Super Rod
  • Stark Mountain
• Catch a different rare Pokémon every day in the Trophy Garden behind the Pokémon Mansion on Route 212
• After first accessing Pal Park, Prof. Oak will appear in the southernmost house in Eterna City. In Diamond & Pearl, he gives out an Up-Grade there. In Platinum, talking to him there causes the legendary birds to start roaming Sinnoh.
• Swarms/mass outbreaks
• Snowpoint Temple
• find pre-Generation IV fossils in the Underground
• access an area of Victory Road featuring Marley and leading to Route 224
• get a Metal Coat from Byron in the house on Iron Island
• Pre-National Pokédex in Platinum:
  • Sendoff Spring & Turnback Cave (unlocked after Spear Pillar in Platinum)
  • Catch Rotom in the Old Chateau
  • Talk to Bebe in Hearthome City to get an Eevee

Other

• The president of the Pokétch Company in Jubilife City gives you a new Pokétch application after you obtain one, three, five, and seven gym badges.
• After all eight Gym Badges are obtained, Mr. Goods in Hearthome City will give you a Gym Statue for your secret base.
