The Good Gym Leaders are a group consisting of the Kanto's Gym Leaders who are not part of Team Rocket, including Misty, Brock, Erika and later Blaine. They are regularly appearing supporting characters of the Red, Green & Blue arc and Yellow arc of the Pokémon Adventures Manga, who also appear in the Gold, Silver & Crystal arc

Brock

Main article: Brock

Character

Brock is a brave Trainer, and he assists Erika and Misty in their battles against Team Rocket. However, he is also shown to be quick to anger and restless in his search for a good battleAside from being a Gym Leader, Brock also works as a security guard at the Pewter Museum of Science.

In the Red, Green & Blue arc

Brock and his Geodude

Brock debuts in Onix Is On!, however he is mentioned earlier by Blue in Wanted: Pikachu! about being bored by no one being able to defeat him, or even get past the preliminaries. To gain access to Brock, a Trainer must win several rounds of battles against special Trainers of the Gym, and all of those battles are watched by him from a special room. Then, Blue challenges Red to try to be the first to defeat Brock and win the Boulder Badge. Red accepts the challenge. Next day, Red defeats everyone in the Gym and Brock that Red is a good opponent for him. But, when discovering that Red's Pika, the only remaining Pokémon of his, was disobedient, deemed his wins "dumb luck" and sought for a finisher attack instantly. However, when the boy begins to gain his Pokémon's trust, it chooses to fight for him and defeats his Onix.

Later, Brock was seen fighting Team Rocket, along with Misty and Erika, in Saffron City in The Winged Legends.

In the Yellow arc

Brock gave Yellow a Graveler after the Good Gym Leaders of Kanto battled Agatha's mind-controlling Gastly in Purrrr-sian. After Blaine figured out that Red must have been at Mt. Moon before going missing, Brock volunteered to search there, since Mt. Moon is closest to Pewter City. He then found a cast of Red frozen in ice there and contacted Blaine in Putting It on the Line...Against Arcanine. Before all of the information could be exchanged, he found out that Pewter City was under attack by a group of Bruno's Machop that was searching for Brock's Boulder Badge, and he left to protect it.

In the Gold, Silver & Crystal arc

A few years later, he, along with Erika and Misty, traveled to Johto for the Gym Leader Tournament at the Indigo Plateau, where he faced off against the expert of the newly discovered Steel-type, Jasmine. She surprises everyone by using Steelix, a new Pokémon that no one had known about. Since he knew nothing about Steelix or even its type, Brock is eventually defeated. Professor Oak reveals to everyone the discovery of the new Steel-type, in which Jasmine specializes. When the Masked Man attacks the Pokémon League, Jasmine and the other Gym Leaders combat his army of mind-controlled Team Rocket Grunts. The fight takes them to the Magnet Train, which is used as a diversion to get the Gym Leaders away from the stadium. After the Masked Man is defeated, Jasmine returned to her usual duties as a Gym Leader.

Geodude (×6)

Brock owns six Geodude, nicknamed Geoone, Geotwo, Geothree, and so on. One of them appeared in Onix Is On! watching the battles with his Trainer. The other five first appeared in Putting It On The Line...Against Arcanine. They often grasp each others' wrists in order to circle around Brock to protect him. During the Gold, Silver & Crystal arc, they used their Magnitude to stop the Magnet Train. However, the impact sent it off course, causing it to almost crash before it was saved by Red's Snorlax.

Debut Onix Is On!

Onix
Main article: Brock's Onix

Onix is arguably Brock's most powerful Pokémon and is apparently well known for its speed, which causes shock waves when it moves. Onix was first used in battle against Red's Pika. Despite the type advantage, Onix was defeated by the small Electric type after it came to fight for Red of its own will. Three years later, Onix was sent out by Brock to use as a bridge when a bridge in the Tohjo Falls went out while Brock, Erika and Misty were heading to Johto, during which Misty is joined by Suicune. However, it itself collapsed when they were all attacked by a large group of Zubat, Golbat and Crobat. Once the group finally made it to the Indigo Plateau, Brock used Onix in his battle with Jasmine. It lost to Jasmine's Steelix, which he initially mistook as an Onix of a different variety due to its rock covering used to hide the fact that it was a new, undiscovered species at the time.

Debut Onix Is On!

Kabuto → Kabutops
Brock met Kabutops when it was a Kabuto in the Pewter Museum of Science during the Elite Four's invasion of Kanto, and received and later evolved it for protecting it during the ordeal. It knows many ancient attacks and is a very powerful member of Brock's team; it was able to easily hold its own against Jasmine's Amphy, nearly winning him the match despite the type disadvantage.

Kabutops's only known move is Ancient Power, and its Ability is Battle Armor.

Debut Striking Golduck
Given away

Graveler
Brock's Graveler was first seen as it watched Red battle the trainers in the Pewter Gym. Later on, Brock gave it to Yellow, who has since evolved it into a Golem.

Graveler's known moves are Mega Punch, Rock Throw, Take Down, and Defense Curl, and his Ability is Sturdy.

Debut Onix Is On!

Misty

Main article: Misty

Misty with her Starmie and Brock with his Geodude

Character

As is shown in Suddenly Starmie, she lives in a large mansion and has a horde of maids that look after her. Here she defeats Red in the Cerulean Gym and trains with him for a couple of days to make them both stronger. At the end of this round she gives Red the Cascade Badge.

Misty seems to have a crush on Red. It is however, considered distinct from Misty's suspected crush on Ash in the anime and in other manga. During the second Team Rocket crisis, Erika observes that Misty is planning on making some sort of confession of romantic feelings to Red. It is unlikely, however, that she ever managed to carry out this plan.

Misty dressed up

In the Red, Green & Blue arc

Misty debuts in Gyarados Splashes In! when Red saves her from her enraged Gyarados, which has been experimented on by Team Rocket. After they recapture the Pokémon, Red and Misty join forces to defeat Team Rocket and find the Moon Stone at Mt. Moon. During the battle, Misty is knocked out by a Team Rocket Grunt's Rhydon.

Later, Red wants to teach his Pokémon Surf, but the HM he tries to acquire is destroyed in a battle with a wild Dragonite. Misty saves Red from drowning; he at first, mistakes her for a mermaid. As Red's one hope of teaching his Pokémon Surf has been utterly demolished, Misty trades Red her Gyarados for his Krabby. They have each other's Pokémon in their respective parties to this day.

Later, Misty was seen fighting Team Rocket, along with Brock and Erika, in Saffron City in The Winged Legends.

In the Yellow arc

She is then seen in the Yellow arc talking with Professor Oak about Red's disappearance and worries about him, especially after hearing that Oak gave Red's Pokédex and Pika to Yellow, who she considered a random stranger. She was then seen teaming up with the other 'good' Gym Leaders of Kanto to thwart Super Nerd Miles, then possessed by Agatha's Gastly and attempting to retrieve Pika. After the event, she meets Yellow for the first time and gives her an Omanyte. She was also seen being stalled by Agatha, who forced Cerulean under attack by a group of Gastly and Haunter. They finally retrieve what they were really after all along, her Gym Badge. Misty had her Starmie go to Cerise Island and give the message to the others.

In the Gold, Silver & Crystal arc

Unlike in the anime, Misty has changed her hairstyle later on to match the one worn by her in Pokémon Gold and Silver. In the Gold, Silver & Crystal arc, during the second Team Rocket crisis, Suicune lured Misty into a battle underneath Tohjo Falls and later offered to be her partner. The recruitment somehow gave her strength and confidence, as she was able to easily defeat Whitney in her exhibition match at the Indigo Plateau. However, she later becomes injured in the battle with the Masked Man, and Suicune goes on to take Crystal as its second partner for the battle's climax.

Erika

Main article: Erika

Erika and Blaine

Character

In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Erika is an elegant young princess who gives lectures at universities and practices archery. She is allied with the "good" Gym Leaders of Kanto, and often assists Misty and Brock during crises.

In the Red, Green & Blue arc

She debuted in Blame It on Eevee, where she sent Red out on a quest to capture an unusual Eevee that could change at will between its three elemental forms, due to being "modified" in a Team Rocket experiment. Erika threatened to kill Eevee by removing it from the healing machine Red had put it in; however, it turned out that she was just testing Red's character, and she then revealed her true alliance and saved the Eevee.

Later, Erika was seen fighting Team Rocket, along with Misty and Brock, in Saffron City in The Winged Legends.

In the Yellow arc

Erika then starts teaching at the Celadon University, replacing a dangerous professor. In Whacked by Marowak!, she goes to meet Yellow after hearing about her from Misty, only to hear from one of her teammates that a Red look-alike has been spotted right outside of Celadon City. Pika races to him only to find out it was a disguise and the real Trainer, Miles, was hired by the Elite Four, who then beats her to the ground, threatens to take her life, and uses his Marowak's Bonemerang laced with some of his Paras's Spores to disable Erika while Yellow chases him. She then figures out that to disguise himself as Red, he would've needed to encounter Red's scent in real life and has Blaine call over for assistance.

She is next seen defending Celadon from Lorelei and her Shellder and Cloyster. She then realized that the Good Gym Leaders of Kanto were simply being stalled so Lance could carry out his real plan, and hoped that Yellow and Blaine had found out the same. She also realized that they were being targeted so the Elite Four could get their hands on the Gym Leader's Badges, which one of the Shellder finally retrieved from her and Misty.

In the Gold, Silver & Crystal arc

Erika is the supervisor of the Kanto Gym Leaders, meaning that she was automatically pitted against Pryce, the Leader of the Johto Gym Leaders, in the exhibition tournament held at the Indigo Plateau in the Gold, Silver & Crystal arc. She lost that match and was later lured into the Magnet Train along with the other Gym Leaders to fight masked Team Rocket Grunts. She witnessed Misty's sudden burst of strength and gave her a flower brooch. Erika was on the front half of the train which later was about to crash into a dead end, but Red appeared out of nowhere to stop the train. Erika then lent Red her Pokégear.

Blaine

Main article: Blaine

Character

Blaine in Pokémon Adventures

Aside from being a Gym Leader, Blaine also works as a Pokémon ecologist.

Although he's serious for most situations, he also had his comical moments. Blaine had his mustache burnt when he was training and had to use fake ones. Sometimes, he may also use riddles to lighten up the dark atmosphere.

In the Red, Green & Blue arc

Blaine debuts in the Red, Green & Blue arc in Tauros the Tyrant. He was first seen as a member of Team Rocket, studying and creating Mewtwo inside the Rocket Game Corner. After hearing about the exploits of Red, a Pokémon Trainer that repeatedly foiled Team Rocket's plans, Blaine decided to leave Team Rocket and turn over a new leaf.

When Red arrived at Cinnabar Island in Holy Moltres, he found Blaine under attack by members of Team Rocket and their Moltres. Blaine had his Rapidash carry Red to his Pokémon Lab while he stayed behind to fend of Team Rocket. At the Lab, Red used a machine to revive an Aerodactyl from a Fossil. Together with his new Pokémon, Red helped defeat Moltres, forcing Team Rocket to escape.

Later, Blaine asked Red to help him in Cerulean Cave in And Mewtwo Too?. Here, Blaine reveals to Red that he had created the Pokémon Mewtwo by cloning the eyelash of Mew along with adding his own human DNA to complete it. When Mewtwo escaped from Team Rocket's captivity, only Blaine was able to track it, hence why Team Rocket had been searching for him. With the use of Blaine's Master Ball, Red managed to successfully capture Mewtwo and gave it to Blaine. Afterward, Blaine expressed regret for Mewtwo's violent nature due to only knowing the cruelty of humans and revealed that he left Team Rocket after being inspired by Red's compassionate nature. Red tells Blaine that he should also try showing compassion to Mewtwo as a way of helping it change for the better as well.

In the Yellow arc

In the Yellow arc, Blaine is a member of the good Gym Leaders, alongside Brock, Misty, and Erika. Together, the good Gym Leaders assist Yellow in battling Super Nerd Miles in Whacked by Marowak!, who had disguised himself as Red, who had gone missing.

Yellow later meets with Blaine as he trains with Camper Evan on Cinnabar Island while wearing a disguise to hide himself from anyone who might be watching. Together, the two travel to Cerise Island to put an end to the Elite Four's ambitions. Upon arriving there, Blaine and Yellow meet with Blue, Green, Bill, and three of the evil Gym Leaders: Lt. Surge, Koga, and Sabrina.

In order to decide who would fight which Elite Four member, Sabrina used her Spoons of Destiny to split the group into four groups of two. After Blaine is paired up with Yellow, the two head to the top of Cerise Island to battle Lance, the leader of the Elite Four. By working together with Mewtwo, Blaine is able to destroy Lance's Poké Balls, thus preventing him from sending out more Pokémon. Due to their connection with each other, prolonged usage of Mewtwo causes Blaine to be left exhausted and unable battle. Not wanting to risk further harm to Blaine, Mewtwo is forced to return to its Poké Ball, leaving Yellow to face Lance alone.

In the Gold, Silver & Crystal arc

In the Gold, Silver & Crystal arc, Blaine is called to take part in an exhibition tournament for the Pokémon League against the Johto Gym Leaders. Blaine was paired up against Clair to fight in the seventh round, but the match is postponed due to Blaine feeling ill. He is later approached by Entei, who had been fighting the other Gym Leaders in search of a Trainer to command it. Blaine accepts the offer, but reveals that he is dying as a result of Mewtwo's cells making their way into his body. Blaine has Entei use its healing flames to burn the cells away, thus healing him and severing his connection to Mewtwo. Mewtwo, now free, leaves Cinnabar to parts unknown.

Blaine changing his disguise

When the Masked Man attacks the Pokémon League, Blaine and the other Gym Leaders combat his army of mind-controlled Team Rocket Grunts. The fight takes them to the Magnet Train, which is used as a diversion to get the Gym Leaders away from the stadium. Clair uses the battle as an opportunity to start the match that had been postponed. Clair attempts to interrogate Blaine on the whereabouts of her cousin Lance, who had gone missing after his defeat on Cerise Island. With Entei's power, Blaine defeats Clair, giving the Kanto Gym Leaders the victory in the exhibition tournament. Blaine then assures Clair that while he may not know where Lance is, he believes that he is still alive.

Later, Blaine teams up with Misty and Lt. Surge to battle the Masked Man. While Blaine uses Entei, Misty and Lt. Surge fight with Suicune and Raikou, respectively. Though they fought hard, Blaine, Misty, and Lt. Surge are unable to stop the Masked Man from escaping. Due to the injuries their Trainers sustained in the battle, Entei, Suicune, and Raikou are forced to go on ahead without them. After the Masked Man is defeated, Blaine returned to his usual duties of being a Gym Leader.

In the FireRed & LeafGreen arc

In the FireRed and LeafGreen arc in Double Down Deoxys, Blaine is greeted by Evan and Miles, who had come to Cinnabar to visit. Blaine notes that the scars created from his separation from Mewtwo have started to ache. He speculates that this may be due to Mewtwo sensing that Mew may be returning to Kanto.

In the X & Y arc

Blaine in the twelfth chapter

In the X & Y arc, Blaine reappears alongside Mewtwo at the Pokémon Village. While Blaine had been away, Team Flare arrived at the village and began abducting the Pokémon there to power their ultimate weapon, earning them Mewtwo's wrath. When Blue and X, arrived, they were attacked by Mewtwo, who had been manipulated by Lysandre, the leader of Team Flare. Blaine arrives just in time to stop Mewtwo by Mega Evolving it into Mega Mewtwo Y, who then proceeds to attack Lysandre. Lysandre counters by summoning Essentia and having her use Zygarde to attack everyone. Zygarde's Land's Wrath heavily damages Blaine, forcing Mewtwo to revert back to its normal form. When Zygarde attacks again, Blaine has Mewtwo switch Mega Stones so that it may Mega Evolve into Mega Mewtwo X. Blaine reveals that due to their unique bond, Mewtwo is able to Mega Evolve more than once during a battle.

Despite this ability, Zygarde proves to be more powerful than Mewtwo in its Mega-Evolved state and uses Land's Wrath to defeat Blaine, Blue, and Mewtwo at once. With his allies unconscious, X decides to borrow their Key Stones in order to simultaneously Mega Evolve his five capable Pokémon. With their combined power, X's team fights against Zygarde. When Lysandre attempts to stop X with his own Pokémon, Blaine and Blue arrive in time to defeat them. After some time, X manages to defeat Lysandre, freeing Zygarde from his control and putting an end to Team Flare in the process.

Later, Blaine and Blue talk to Professor Sycamore about the final battle against Team Flare. They reveal that after Zygarde disappeared, a small green creature was spotted watching them from the rubble. Sycamore reveals that similar creatures, which he named the Zygarde Cell, have been seen in the Alola region and sends his assistants, Sina and Dexio, to investigate.

Mewtwo ↔ Mega Mewtwo X/Y
Main article: Mewtwo (Adventures)

Mewtwo was created by Blaine in a Team Rocket hideout using a small sample of Mew's DNA and Blaine's own. After it was fully cultivated in the Pokémon Lab on Cinnabar Island, it went berserk and demolished the place before settling in the Cerulean Cave (where it wreaked havoc in the northwestern sector of Cerulean City). Eventually, Red caught word of it and reached the cave out of curiosity before nearly being killed in its psychic tornado. Blaine made a valiant attempt to kill it at all costs, knowing that if he, the only one with the ability to function as a "Mewtwo Radar" was defeated, the world could come to an end. Although this succeeded in eliminating its tornado, the mutant itself still survived, only to be caught with a Master Ball that was thrown by Red in an ingenious maneuver. Mewtwo then went on to be a trained Pokémon belonging to Blaine and fought against Lance in the Yellow arc, though Blaine's failing health held it back from winning. After it was released a year later, it partnered up with Red much later on to free Deoxys from Giovanni's hands.

Debut Tauros the Tyrant

Entei
Main article: Entei (Adventures)

Blaine was chosen by Entei to be partnered up for his extensive knowledge of the Fire-type. In return, it offered its help in erasing the painful genetic connection between him and Mewtwo, allowing it to finally be freed. After Blaine, Misty, and Lt. Surge had been injured fighting the Masked Man in Indigo Plateau, it was partnered up with Silver instead, and went back to the wild after the villain was defeated.

Debut Slugging It Out with Slugma
