Description The silent type, this legendary, awesome Pokémon Trainer hardly talks at all. His best friend, Blue, is also his rival.

Red (Japanese: レッド Red) is a Pokémon Trainer in Pokémon Masters EX, based on the character of the same name in the core series. In his sygna suit form, he forms a sync pair with Charizard, which is capable of Mega Evolving. This sync pair was first made available on February 28, 2020. This pair can be raised to 6★ EX from August 28, 2020.

Red also forms a sync pair with Snorlax, which is capable of Gigantamaxing. This sync pair was first made available on September 16, 2021. This pair can be raised to 6★ EX from the day it was released.

Red in his Thunderbolt Sygna Suit forms a sync pair with his Pikachu, which is capable of Gigantamaxing. This sync pair is available from a limited-time Master Fair sync pair scout and was first made available on September 1, 2022. This pair can be raised to 6★ EX from the day it was released.

Charizard

Raising this sync pair to 6★ EX will unlock Song Key 01001, which allows "Battle! (Red) (Pokémon Masters EX Version)" to be played in the Jukebox.

Trivia

  • Red is based on the player character of the Kanto-based games, as he was the Champion of Kanto, his rival is Blue, as he has the first partner Pokémon with a type advantage over Red, and he was the one who defeated Team Rocket back in Kanto.
  • Though Red is depicted mostly as silent in Pokémon Masters EX, there are several instances of him speaking in the game:
    • He speaks a single line in Sygna Suit Red's Sync Pair Story: "… … … … … … Words are unnecessary!"
    • He speaks two lines during Chapter 30: "…I accept your challenge!" and "Congratulations! You won!"
      • In addition, in Chapter 30, Red's thoughts are heard once too: "Blue, Leaf… Let's win this—together!"
    • He speaks a single line in the Blazing Battle with Ash special event: "…I'll be waiting."
  • The English names of Sygna Suit Red and Red's Trainer moves are possible references to the lyrics of the Pokémon Theme.
  • Red is the only Trainer in Pokémon Masters EX whose Sygna Suit variant was made available before their regular attire.
    • Possibly for the same reason, Red is also the only Trainer whose battle music is unlocked in the Jukebox by raising their Sygna Suit variant to 6★ EX rather than their regular attire.
  • In Red's Sync Pair Story, Leaf mentions how she failed to capture a Snorlax back in Kanto. This could explain why there is only one Snorlax in the Johto-based games; Red successfully caught one of the Snorlax available in the Kanto-based games, while Leaf failed to catch the second one.
  • All versions of Red use special voice-over lines upon winning a battle in a team that contains certain Trainers (regardless of their partner Pokémon). Those Trainers include Ethan and Leon.
  • In Sygna Suit Kris's Sync Pair Story, Leaf mentions that Red once saw a Suicune in Kanto, referencing the roaming Suicune that appears in Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen if the player's first partner Pokémon was Charmander.
  • Sygna Suit Red (Thunderbolt) & Pikachu are the first Master Fair-exclusive sync pair capable of using max moves.
  • In Sygna Suit Red (Thunderbolt)'s Sync Pair Story, it's revealed he caught his Pikachu in Viridian Forest.

Origin

Charizard is the final form of Charmander, one of the first partner Pokémon of Kanto in the core series games. Charizard is one of the Pokémon that Red typically uses as a non-player character in the core series. In Pokémon Sun, Moon, Ultra Sun, and Ultra Moon, it is capable of Mega Evolving. In addition, Red is seen owning a Charizard in animated short series such as Pokémon Origins, which depicts Charizard as his first partner Pokémon and is also the first canon where Charizard is seen Mega Evolving into Mega Charizard X. Charizard's Dex entry comes from Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire.

Red's design is based on his appearance in Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen. Snorlax is one of the Pokémon that Red typically uses as a non-player character in the core series. It is likely based on of the two Snorlax barring the player's progress in the Kanto-based games. In addition, his Pokémon Adventures counterpart has one as a part of his main party, and he's seen catching and using one in Pokémon Origins. Snorlax's Dex entry comes from Pokémon Ultra Sun.

Pikachu is the first partner Pokémon in Pokémon Yellow. It would later act as Red's signature Pokémon as a non-player character in the core series games. Red is shown with a Gigantamax Pikachu in the TCG, with it being the first piece of media to depict Red's Pikachu Gigantamaxing. In addition, Red is seen owning Pikachu in animated short series such as Pokémon Origins and Generations, and his Pokémon Adventures counterpart has had one in his party since almost the very beginning of the manga. Pikachu's Dex entry comes from Pokémon Ultra Sun.
