January 2010

  • 29th: Nintendo unexpectedly announce that a new Pokémon RPG is on its way before the end of 2010 on the Nintendo DS, through a Japanese press release (soon after translated onto Bulbanews). Masuda reveals on his blog that there will be a further announcement on February 7th. Some fans think this is definitely Generation V, while others say that it is not yet definitive.

February 2010

  • 6th: A silhouette of a new Pokémon is revealed by Masuda in the 7th February (due to time difference) edition of Pokémon Sunday. More details are expected on Feb 21st. It's now clear this is Generation V. Bulbagarden splits off the Generation V article, and creates a forum dedicated to Generation V speculation.
  • 10th: Scans from the March edition of CoroCoro leak onto Serebii. Soon after, they are confirmed as legit. They give the Japanese name of the silhouette Pokémon, Zoroark, and of its pre-evolution, Zorua. Both Pokémon's type, height, weight and Pokédex species are revealed. They also reveal that Zoroark will play a big role in Movie 13, in fact being the titular character. The movie is due for release on July 10th.
  • 16th: A new Nintendo console is rumoured; some development studios have reportedly received dev kits, including TPCi.
