Rulings
For the "Sinister Surge" Ability:
- A player may use "Sinister Surge" on their Benched Darkness-type Pokémon with 20 HP or less; if they do, the 2 damage counters placed from the Ability will cause that Pokémon to be Knocked Out.[1][2] The text for the "Sinister Surge" Ability has no clause prohibiting it from being used on a Pokémon that would be Knocked Out by it (unlike in eg. Gardevoir ex's "Psychic Embrace" Ability).
- When using "Sinister Surge", the player may choose to not get out any Basic
(Darkness) Energy cards from their deck, in which case they shuffle their deck and end the process.[1]
