Template:Game4
Pokémon {} and {}, Pokémon {}, and Pokémon {}
This template is intended to link a quartet of games, usually all related to each other.
This template is mainly expected to be used for the games RGBY, BWB2W2, or SMUSUM, which are all treated as special cases and link appropriately for their needs (i.e., BW/B2W2 and SM/USUM are both two pairs of games requiring only two links, while RGBY is different and requires three links).
For generic cases aside from those, this template assumes that the first two games passed as arguments are a linked pair of games, but that the last two games may not be: meaning the first pair of games are one link, and the last two games are their own separate links.
- Parameters
- Unnamed
- 1: the first game of a linked pair; or a special case uniquely identifying one of the expected quartets (listed below)
- 1 or RGBY: Pokémon Red, Green, Blue, and Yellow
- 5 or BWB2W2: Pokémon Black, White, Black 2, and White 2
- 7 or SMUSUM: Pokémon Sun, Moon, Ultra Sun, and Ultra Moon
- 2: the second game of a linked pair; when combined with argument 1, they are linked as
[[Pokémon [1] and [2]|Pokémon [1] and [2]]]
, meaning they are one link and do not include "version" or anything else extra - 3: a third game assumed to be its own game; linked as
[[Pokémon [3]]]
- 4: a fourth game assumed to be its own game; linked as
[[Pokémon [4]]]
- 1: the first game of a linked pair; or a special case uniquely identifying one of the expected quartets (listed below)
Special support
There are three main quartets of games that this template is generally expected to be used for. The special cases of argument 1 allow this template to be called with only one parameter, simplifying the call, such as 1
or RGBY
(instead of
) for Pokémon Red, Green, Blue, and Yellow. If the four inputs are Red|Green|Blue|Yellow
, Black|White|Black|White
, or Sun|Moon|Sun|Moon
, these are also treated as special cases.
This template's support of Black|White|Black|White
and Sun|Moon|Sun|Moon
for BW/B2W2 and SM/USUM is only included so that past versions of pages will continue to render correctly. Ideally, the template would always have distinctly identified the sequel games (such as Black|White|Black 2|White 2
), but since those uses were sustained over many pages, it is kept as a special case for viewing page histories.

Updating this template
If future Pokémon games stick to the format of "Pokémon [color/etc]" with no "version" or sequel numeral or anything thrown into the mix, then this template does not strictly need to be updated. Even if a new quartet (especially a new pair of paired games) appears, adding a new special case for that would increase the include size just to avoid a couple redirects, and that trade-off may not be worth it. (If a new quartet does include a new game with a unique format, then a special case may be required.)
If a new special case must be added, legacy conditions that allow lazy inputs like BlackWhiteBlackWhite and SunMoonSunMoon should not be carelessly copied (see above). If this template is updated before anyone attempts to use it for a new quartet, it may even be possible to get away with only using [gen#] and [abbreviations] for conditions just to keep the include size and calling simple.
