Is there really much weaponry?

Correct me if I am wrong but Giovanni's helo in Mewtwo Returns had a chin mounted energy cannon and I think in another instance it sported what appeared to be an autocannon.

On naming the weapons
On occasion a weapon based on a particular real-life can be recognized. I made an edit speciiying that Officer Jenny used an M1 Garand in an episode. There was already an edit specifying a weapon Meowth held (I just corrected whhat type of weapon it was). Is this okay with everyone? - unsigned comment from Bulbajer (talk • contribs)
Actually, Officer Jenny used an M1 carbine, not a M1 Garand. The M1 Garand was clip fed, and Jenny's rifle has a magazine on the bottom.--KonguChaos (talk) 02:00, 19 December 2012 (UTC)

The article title is 'Weaponry in the Pokémon world', but it merely details weapons seen in the anime. Weapons in both the games (such as the whips) and manga have also been seen a few times, I think they deserve a mention, especially since this article's title does not specifically mention 'anime' in it, but world. Pokémon RGBY: Whips?
So, for expanding the "In the games" section, can we count the whips used by Cooltrainers and the like? They may just be a training tool, a la lion taming, but apparently in beta there was ideas for having the trainers fight alongside the Pokémon (see Concept Art - A Battle Between Trainers). Plus, well, even if they're being used as a tool, they can still technically be classed as weapons, correct? --Pie ~♪♫ 00:27, 24 April 2014 (UTC)
- Well given the concept art and the blurb from Sugimori on that page, I'd say that they probably can be classified as some form of weapon. Pokémon I debated adding to the chart, but didn't
Just in case anyone wants to make a case for them:
- Scyther. This one was a really tough call, particularly since the Japanese name doesn't reference scythes which throws in the question of whether this was an intentional design choice or not. But what I'm really more torn up about is that... well, scythes are actually garden tools, and it's only thanks to them getting repurposed in pop culture as weapons that we think of them as such. (You can make a scythe INTO a weapon, but it requires turning the blade 90 degrees, something which you don't really see in pop culture. See war scythe.) It's a big complicated mess with the symbology of the Grim Reaper at the heart, and from what I've heard it's all for cool factor because a regular scythe is pretty awful as a weapon. I've ruled them as "not weapons" for now, but I'd love to hear other opinions on this one.
- Timburr, Gurdurr and Conkeldurr. While the "heavy bar" stuff they carry is certainly used as weapons, I ultimately decided that these can't really be classified as weapons themselves. It's more like an improvised weapon, you know? Like if there was a Pokémon who walked around smacking other Pokémon with folding chairs. If the Pokédex compared these to another weapon, like a quarterstaff, that would be a different story.
- Delphox. Similar story. It uses its "magic wand" only for combat, but honestly, it's hard to argue it as a weapon considering it's a fictional device and one with varying usage in said fiction. It's more like a tool, kind of like Alakazam's spoons or Hypno's pendant.
On a side note, I think it'd be interesting to have a simple article listing all Pokémon who carry tools, weapons and other objects separate from themselves (not counting held items). Maybe breaking them into sections by usage? --Pie ~♪♫ 13:31, 27 April 2014 (UTC)
