Pokémon Diamond & Pearl Saving Failsafe

Though I have only witnessed this once, it appears that the games Pokémon Diamond and Pearl have a failsafe in the event that anything happens in the middle of saving (e.g. Power Cut, cartridge removed, random crash, etc).

When this happens and the game is restart, a system message informs the player that the intended save file is corrupted, and would use the previous save file instead. As a result, important game data would not be lost so easily.

If this is truly the case, I hope it puts some minds at ease. --HechEff 13:24, 24 January 2009 (UTC)

Yes, Pokemon Diamond and Pearl has a backup memory. So whenever your save file becomes corrupt the game will back it up. This however will make it hard to glitch the game and use like the cloning glitch.--Clarky13 19:12, 24 January 2009 (UTC)

Um.. My Diamond wont let me save , and when I try to, it says save file corrupt. Every time. Sooo, I have kept my DSI on the charger looking for a solution. Will it go away if I restart? ---- Jack89131 UTC 4:53 January 12, 2014

Battery Replacement

My Gold Version can't save because the battery is dead. Where can I get a new battery? I've called Nintendo and they don't have any batteries because the game was made in 2000. Where do they sell cartridge batteries? I want to save again.--SeanWheeler 02:05, 15 April 2010 (UTC)

They use the same batteries as watches do, so anywhere that sells watch batteries (jewelry stores, maybe?) should do. This thread has more info on replacing your GS battery and what battery it uses. ▫▪Ťïňắ 02:14, 15 April 2010 (UTC)

Colosseum/XD

It's been a while since I played XD, so I'm not 100% sure if it's the same as Colosseum, but I know that the only place to save in Colosseum is at a PC. Should this be added to the Generation III section since these are considered main series games? PhantomJunkie 15:25, 20 August 2010 (UTC)

In XD you can save anywhere. Turtwig's A-B-Cs (talk | contribs) 15:35, 20 August 2010 (UTC)
So XD functions the same as the cartridge main series games? Okay, good to know. PhantomJunkie 15:57, 20 August 2010 (UTC)

Generation V

I'm not entirely sure but I think you can't turn off a generation V game while saving. Unless of course the battery dies or is removed, or if the game card is removed. Hyper Shadow 17:50, 2 June 2011 (UTC)

Deletion Instructions in Platinum

The instructions for how to delete a saved game—"Press Up + SELECT + B Button on the title screen if you want to erase the current saved game file." follow after both messages in Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, but not in Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver.

^ It mentions Diamond, Pearl, HeartGold and SoulSilver, but not Platinum. Does it give the instructions or not? (I'd assume so, but either way, it should be in the article.)RiverShock (talk) 07:18, 18 November 2012 (UTC)

Related articles?

Why is Kangaskhan Storage a related article here? I don't see the connection between saving data and storing items in Mystery Dungeon. Schiffy (Speak to me|What I've done) 15:57, 11 April 2013 (UTC)

Kangaskhan Rock redirects there. The rock is basically a dungeon savepoint that sometimes also has Kangaskhan Storage functions. Marked +-+-+ (talk) 16:35, 11 April 2013 (UTC)
Kangaskhan Rock redirects to Kangaskhan Storage, not to Saving. Anyway, I see what you're saying. I had forgotten that the Rocks could be used for both storage and saving. Schiffy (Speak to me|What I've done) 17:07, 11 April 2013 (UTC)

HGSS "saving a lot of data"

I found this on the Internet.

"HeartGold and SoulSilver seem to have cut the save and load times rather nicely. As in, "Saving a lot of data" appears only when save data is corrupted and you are saving again with a backup save file, or after a GTS trade."

Can anyone confirm this? Eridanus (talk) 16:38, 8 January 2014 (UTC)

X and Y no longer save backups

Is it true? I heard that pokemon x and y no longer save backups so as to prevent piracy, so if it corrupts, say goodbye to all data. Can anyone confirm this? If so, add to the article.Lightningsnowstorm (talk) 06:00, 14 September 2014 (UTC)

Confirmed for ORAS - I've lost 2-3 different delta episode cleared saves from save hacking. Can someone test for gen VII? Wishindo (talk) 06:27, 6 March 2017 (UTC)

Deleting a save file

Correct me if I'm wrong, but let's say I stopped at Petalburg Woods with 3 pokemon( including my starter) and then saved my game in Omega Ruby. The next day I played some more and got 2 more pokemon, and I wanted to save. However, I have to delete my first save file with the Petalburg Woods so I don't lose the data with the 2 pokemon. If I delete my first save file(3 pokemon), what will exactly happen? Will I have to start over? I am so confused since this will be my first game, and I feel we should add info about this to make the article more clear and a bit less confusing.Leafeon6954 (talk) 16:43, 15 June 2015 (UTC)

When you start a previously saved game and then try to save again, the game tells you it will have to overwrite the previous save file. You don't lose anything, because you started by loading the original save file, including the Pokemon you caught before you made that save, so they're already part of the data that it's now asking if you want to write over the previous save. Thank you very much!Leafeon6954 (talk) 21:04, 15 June 2015 (UTC)
Not to intrude to the discussion, but to understand more, I will explain how the "overwrite" thing works. Overwriting is the same as updating, so for example, you have 3 Pokémon, and you are in Jubilife City in our save, then you have now 6 Pokémon and you are now in Solaceon Town (that is so fast ) and save. The game will just replace the old Pokémon data (3 Pokémon) with the new Pokémon data (6 Pokémon), and the old location data (Jubilife City) replaced with new location data (Solaceon Town). If you didn't change your Pokémon in the PC boxes, the Box data will be ignored instead, and vice versa. --~~ThePokémonFanSince1995~~-- 12:05, 19 June 2015 (UTC)
