Smogon says Brave Bird does 1/3 of the damage. It's very strange that some 120 power moves do 1/4 and some do 1/3. --Raijinili 07:06, 1 November 2008 (UTC)

I copied the figures from List of moves that do damage. So if there's any errors, two pages need updating. Gywall(Talk) 10:07, 1 November 2008 (UTC)
We should really have that kind of thing templatized, so that only the template needs to be changed. --Raijinili 01:36, 2 November 2008 (UTC)

Are Self Destruct and Explosion a recoil

If it is, then I will put it on the page --Metagross72 03:56, 20 January 2009 (UTC)

Items with Recoil

Only Life Orb should be there since the other items are not causing recoil; the damage that they deal do not satify the definition for "recoil." - unsigned comment from Louisng114 (talkcontribs)

Even the Life Orb is stretching it, IMO. My understanding of recoil is that it would only count as such if the damage received is based on the damage dealt. For example, Double Edge deals recoil damage because the attack hits so hard as to damage the user as well. As I understand the Life Orb, the user sacrifices some of their own power to power up their attack.
I agree that items such as the Flame Orb and Sticky Barb need to go, though. The effects of those take effect even if the Pokémon holding them doesn't attack, for instance if they are charging Solarbeam or the trainer uses an item. --AndyPKMN 12:22, 14 October 2010 (UTC)

Special recoil?

Isn't Volt Tackle recoil a special move? (per trivia) GreenReaper 08:52, 25 November 2011 (UTC)

As noted in that very trivia section, it was Special in Generation III only. As of Generation IV, Volt Tackle is a Physical category move. The table reflects move status as of Generation V. - Kogoro - Talk to me - 09:35, 25 November 2011 (UTC)

Crash damage split

Can we please have this split? Because for the most part, it's just something different. Nescientist (talk) 15:49, 20 April 2017 (UTC)

Struggle, Shadow End and Mind Blown as recoil moves?

Can we have a discussion on whether Struggle, Shadow End and Mind Blown should be considered recoil moves, please? They seem to fundamentally differ from all other recoil moves: their "recoil" damage is based on the user's maximum HP rather than the damage dealt, and they aren't affected by Abilities like Rock Head. Other interactions, like Reckless and Magic Guard, are consistent among all other recoil moves but vary between these three. It just doesn't seem to me like they belong with the others. Pumpkinking0192 (talk) 19:33, 13 January 2018 (UTC)

Well, Akurochan has removed Mind Blown from this page and the category Moves that have recoil, which on the one hand is kind of the goal I was aiming toward, but on the other hand just leaves Shadow End and Struggle in an even weirder limbo, since now we're not even consistently miscategorizing the "lose % of user's max HP" moves as recoil anymore. Akurochan, if you see this message, I'd love to hear your thoughts on the matter. Pumpkinking0192 (talk) 00:02, 17 January 2018 (UTC)
I think it would be informative to compare what the battle text says after each move/when the HP is lost. Tiddlywinks (talk) 00:09, 17 January 2018 (UTC)
Mystery solved. Did research on Youtube and it looks like Shadow End and Struggle both give messages about being damaged by recoil, but Mind Blown gives no message at all. Not sure if you knew that already and were being condescending about it, or if you didn't know and were sincerely trying to be helpful, but either way, thanks for the tip. Case closed. Pumpkinking0192 (talk) 01:18, 17 January 2018 (UTC)
I kind of meant all the moves, for one thing. I think it would be good to be sure that they all say the same things. (And I rather hoped Shadow End and Struggle would be different than Take Down/etc.) I would've done it myself if I weren't currently concentrating on other things in the games. (I.e., no, I meant no condescension or anything.) Tiddlywinks (talk) 01:24, 17 January 2018 (UTC)
Sorry for the accusation.
For posterity, here are a selection of messages that are likely to represent everything in question (just a selection, since I'm not necessarily interested in combing through a dozen moves' worth of probably-identical messages):
If anyone else wants to research other generations or other moves that hadn't been under suspicion, be my guest, but this is enough to put the matter to rest in my mind. Pumpkinking0192 (talk) 01:52, 17 January 2018 (UTC)
