Should we delete this?

This is a "community-driven POKÉMON Encyclopedia." What on earth does the 3DS have to do with Pokémon? There are no Pokémon-related games on the 3DS. I understand that it is made by Nintendo, but by that logic, we should have articles for the Game & Watch, NES, SNES, and Virtual Boy. The Virtual Boy is especially noteworthy because it is a portable system, so a Pokémon release was highly likely before it was retired. Especially with the 3DS attempting to use 3D effects like the Virtual Boy did, it is likely that the 3DS will be retired quickly as well with no Pokémon titles. I am in favor of deleting this until a Pokémon-related game is announced. --GoldenSandslash15 14:42, 1 October 2010 (UTC)

Don't be silly. =P--Pokélova! 16:09, 1 October 2010 (UTC)
There already is a 3DS Pokemon game announced, it's that game that teaches Japanese people to type using "English." Besides I honestly doubt the 3DS will be a complete failure like the Virtual Boy was. The 3DS will be here to stay and there will be other Pokemon games. --Dman dustin 16:25, 1 October 2010 (UTC)
Additionally (and this should probably be mentioned in the article), early reports on what was then only known as the successor to the DS specifically mentioned The Pokémon Company as having gotten special priority in receiving the software development kit for the 3DS. --AndyPKMN 16:30, 1 October 2010 (UTC)
Dman, I'm pretty sure Battle & Get! Pokémon Typing DS! is for the DS line, not 3DS. But yeah, consoles these days don't fail like they did back then.--Pokélova! 16:32, 1 October 2010 (UTC)
Well that's just confusing then, I mean Serebii says at Nintendo's Conference regarding the 3DS a new Pokemon DS game was announced. I guess at the time I figured it was for the 3DS since it made sense, but now that I think about it and reread it, probably not, considering it comes packaged with a Keyboard (which will most likely utilize the GBA slot in some fashion). I guess I got mixed up, and maybe I was a little too hopeful there would be a 3DS Pokemon Game sooner rather than later. My other point stands though as does AndyPKMN's point. --Dman dustin 19:12, 1 October 2010 (UTC)
The new Pokémon Typing Game can be played on the original DS/Lite/DSi/XL. - unsigned comment from GoldenSandslash15 (talkcontribs)
It is also noteable that the old ds games can be played on the 3ds - unsigned comment from Ash0011 (talkcontribs)

Countdown

Is it possible that we could put a countdown for the 3ds--Ash0011 23:55, 21 January 2011 (UTC)

It's possible, but not needed. The 3DS is not strictly Pokémon related, and there aren't even any 3-D Pokémon games announced for it right now. R.A. Hunter Blade 00:02, 22 January 2011 (UTC)
yes but it will be compatible with old ds games.--Ash0011 21:59, 23 January 2011 (UTC)
It's still not strictly for Pokémon. --HoennMaster 22:03, 23 January 2011 (UTC)
Also, we didn't have a countdown for the DSi, so I don't see why we would have one for the 3DS. R.A. Hunter Blade 22:17, 23 January 2011 (UTC)
There is no reason why we can't. But currently, we are counting down to BW. Let that one run out and we'll consider this. MaverickNate 22:18, 23 January 2011 (UTC)

N. American Release

When I was in Gamestop the other day I saw a poster for the 3DS and it said it was released on the 24th. I live in Canada is there something I'm missing or is it different then we are assuming? --Rucario64 13:29, 26 February 2011 (UTC)

X and Y

Add Pokémon X and Y Versions to the list of games :3 --PenBlooeR 13:53, 8 January 2013 (UTC)

The newest 3DS, New 3DS

Is it too early to mention the newest 3DS the "New 3DS" ?Yamitora1 (talk) 06:02, 31 August 2014 (UTC)

Let's wait until we get more facts. We only know so little about it. --リックEO (オープン for discussion) 06:07, 31 August 2014 (UTC)
The New Nintendo 3DS and New Nintendo 3DS XL should both get their own articles. --SnorlaxMonster 06:33, 31 August 2014 (UTC)
Since the name is the same, should we do something like "Nintendo 3DS (Model B)" or something? After all, if the name is the same, then how would we properly create a new article without misdirecting users? --Super goku (talk) 03:26, 1 September 2014 (UTC)
We should probably wait for the official name to be released. --リックEO (オープン for discussion) 04:11, 1 September 2014 (UTC)

Cameo

Doesn't it cameo in one of the Pokemon Centers in Sun/Moon, with 2 youngsters trading? LukeDaDiggityDog (talk) 17:56, 27 May 2017 (UTC)

Trivia

I added the fact that at least one core series game from every region can be played on the 3DS, if not every core series game. Is that notable? (The original games can be played on Virtual console, Heartgold and Soulsilver can be played via DS backwards compatability, Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire are Hoenn remakes for the 3DS, and every game from Diamond and Pearl onwards is playable either through DS backwards compatability or due to being made for the 3DS). --LavaringX (talk) 18:48, 28 May 2017 (UTC)

Patches

Should patches for apps like Bank & Transporter be added to the Patches section the 3DS page, or is that just for retail titles? Torpoleon (talk) 23:03, 2 June 2018 (UTC)

Sophocles in the Cameos section

It is said in the Cameos section that Sophocles is holding a Nintendo 3DS in a Poké Problem segment from A Guardian Rematch!. Sophocles is holding a New Nintendo 3DS XL, as can be determined by the presence of ZL and ZR buttons and the lack of visible plates. Should this cameo therefore be moved to New Nintendo 3DS XL, or simply corrected? SNBeast (talk) 02:18, 24 February 2022 (UTC)

T region trivia

This is about the region-locked 3DSes officially sold in Taiwan and Hong Kong (the 3DS calls this region "T"). I don't have enough information to make this encyclopedic enough to actually include in the article, but felt this was noteworthy enough to write down somewhere, especially since the Pokemon core series games didn't officially release in the region until partway through the 3DS's lifespan, causing a bunch of interesting quirks.

Sources:

Info:

  • Despite not being playable in Chinese, Pokemon XY/ORAS did officially release in the region, complete with physical cartridges that are region-locked to T region 3DSes.
  • XY can be searched on the T region eShop but cannot be downloaded, making them physical-only releases in the region. The eShop listing will always say "This software is currently unavailable.", even before the 2023 shutdown. The game titles (both physical and digital) show up in English. Updates can still be downloaded as normal.
  • I do not know if ORAS can be searched or downloaded on the T region eShop or not; you'd have to find someone who tried this on a T region 3DS before the shutdown. Updates can still be downloaded as normal, and the game titles (both physical and the digital updates) show up in English.
  • In 2015, T region 3DSes were discontinued due to low demand and practically everyone just importing systems from other regions. Yes, this seriously means that they were discontinued before Pokemon core series games for the 3DS actually started releasing in Chinese (Sun/Moon in 2016). The "New" Nintendo 3DS series was never released in the T region; there do not exist any New 3DSes that are region-locked to T.
  • The T region 3DS eShop contains a special category for "games officially released for T region systems before the discontinuation". Strangely, this doesn't include ORAS (but includes XY). This is not necessarily evidence that ORAS doesn't exist on the T region eShop, because the official eShops have been wrong on obscure details before (e.g. claiming that you can't buy Virtual Console Pokemon Puzzle Challenge in Spanish, but you can).
  • Also in 2015, Nintendo officially released J region 3DSes in Hong Kong and Taiwan, except with all the online features disabled (like the Wii mini). These would only take J region 3DS physical carts, wouldn't take anyone's already-purchased T region carts, had their system menu language locked to Japanese, etc.
  • The Japanese physical carts for XY/ORAS were officially re-released in Hong Kong and Taiwan in 2015, with game titles in Japanese but with Hong Kong's age rating icon.
  • Sun/Moon finally comes out and officially has a physical cart for T region 3DSes, a physical cart for J region 3DSes, and a digital release on the T region 3DS eShop. The T region releases have their game titles in Traditional Chinese. The J region cart has a game title in Japanese and a Hong Kong age rating icon.
  • The same occurs with USUM. (The official website incorrectly claims that USUM never got a digital release on the T region 3DS eShop.) All of SM/USUM have downloadable updates as normal.
  • The 3DS sections of Nintendo's Hong Kong/Taiwan official websites still openly advertise J region physical carts alongside T region ones.
