Move Tutors or move tutors? - Jshadias 03:26, 5 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Edited the part about only being able to learn Mega Punch or Mega Kick outside of Mt. Moon in LG/FR. My Pikachu learned Mega Kick and my Mankey learned Mega Punch. =) --Doug teh H-Nut 8:00 PM EST, July 11, 2005

Are any of these moves one-shot tutors? Or are they all infinitely teachable? Either way, I think this should be clarified. If the former is the case, it should also be noted on the move's page. --ZellMurasame 16:41, 13 December 2007 (UTC)

I'm not sure about FRLG, I think those are one-shot. In Emerald (at least at the Battle Frontier), Crystal, and DP they're all infinite. TTEchidnaGSDS! 20:08, 13 December 2007 (UTC)
...if anyone could say whether or not the non-BF tutors in Gen III are infinite, that'd be nice... TTEchidnaGSDS! 09:27, 14 January 2008 (UTC)
Except for the tutors at the Battle Frontier, every Gen III move tutor teaches a move only once. Trainer-c 11:32, 14 January 2008 (UTC)

D/P tutors

I edited in a little bit of information about the D/P move tutors, similar to the information regarding the Gen II/III/IV move tutors. Is that sufficient? -- Nebula 00:35, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

Mew Tutor

Serebii talks of a tutor for Mew when you transfer it from any game to XD. Will we add this info to this article? The link is http://www.serebii.net/xd/mew.shtml.ht14 13:47, 25 June 2008 (UTC)

It does seem notable. Plus it makes the statement that Mew can learn any attack true. ~$aturn¥oshi THE VOICES 15:10, 25 June 2008 (UTC)
And only Mew can learn these? TTEchidna 01:08, 13 September 2008 (UTC)
Hmm... I think sometime we should try our hand at listing the moves that Mew has never legally been able to have. TTEchidna 01:40, 13 September 2008 (UTC)
So true... ht14 00:45, 15 September 2008 (UTC)

Font Colors

As the title suggests, how do the font colors change (like the titles)? Some of the words are hard to read.... ht14 00:45, 15 September 2008 (UTC)

I can fix 'em, which ones specifically? TTEchidna 02:41, 15 September 2008 (UTC)
XD tutors should be white... ht14 02:45, 15 September 2008 (UTC)
Never mind, I figured it out... ht14 21:04, 20 October 2008 (UTC)

Platinum tutors

On the pages for moves that can be learned via Platinum tutors, someone needs to add the list of Pokémon that can learn them. --Baby G (talk to me) (see my edits) 19:52, 20 September 2008 (UTC)

On the pages for Pokémon that can learn said move tutors, someone should mention them.
The problem remains... what about the crossgen evos? Like Ambipom; you can get DynamicPunch on it if you transfer Aipom from Emerald. Should that be mentioned? TTEchidna 23:00, 21 September 2008 (UTC)

Cape Brink Tutor and Starters

So, I bought LeafGreen and FireRed at the same time, and traded the other two starters to my FireRed file early on (by Pewter City). So they all had max happiness by the time I reached Cape Brink. And the move tutor taught Blaze Burn to Charizard, Hydro Cannon to Blastoise, and Frenzy Plant to Venasaur. This proves that it's not just for the trainer's starter (which was Squirtle, by the way).

I can't think of the right words to reword it though, so I'd like to leave that up to someone else; and if someone else doesn't, I'll just have to fix it someother time. But it should be noted. Satosuke 23:05, 19 October 2008 (UTC)

Move availability

To all those who edit Platinum tutor moves: check before assuming anything. For instance, just because a Pokémon learns one or even two elemental punches does not mean it learns all three. Check Smogon and Serebii. They are wrong sometimes, but rarely. If you find something that looks suspicious, check it on a Platinum game, or find someone who can. Please do not simply assume things, and then present it as fact on Bulbapedia's move lists. Checking early avoids a lot more hassle for everyone later on. Thanks. — Laoris (Blah) 02:53, 26 November 2008 (UTC)

On a related note, sometimes a Pokémon can learn a move by tutor in Emerald, but cannot learn the same move in Platinum. Whether or not this makes sense, it's true. — Laoris (Blah) 03:30, 26 November 2008 (UTC)

Heart Gold/Soul Silver

I've got the ball rolling. How you decide to make it look prettier is up to those of you who know what you're doing. Also, I'm not sure you should bother putting the Platinum Battle Frontier move tutors in the same template as the new ones (even though you can learn them in the same place) because it makes it more difficult to find the new ones. But that's just my opinion.--Aniny 19:46, 26 September 2009 (UTC)

When I first analyzed the HG/SS Move tutors I noticed at least 11 new moves that were not available in Platinum so I would think that would be a good reason to make a new template, similar to the one used for Emerald since it also requires B.P. and If I recall on my analysis this does not include Headbutt. -Tyler53841 19:31, 29 September 2009 (UTC)
If you're going to offer a sortable table by price, then the Platinum tutor moves should be added as well.--Aniny 04:35, 6 October 2009 (UTC)
Have to agree with that.-Tyler53841 06:19, 6 October 2009 (UTC)
Which is why I finished the work myself and added details in that I was aware of on the day the details were revealed and even did double check conformation with the old list and Platinum list to confirm the accuracy of these details before posting. -Tyler53841 07:34, 6 October 2009 (UTC)
can some pinpoint out the location of move tutor in hg/ss? i tried finding it but no hope, tnx. - wisp82 1:15 Am, 30 June 2010 (UTC)
I suggest reading the article. The locations of the move tutors are given; it shouldn't be too hard to track them down. —darklordtrom 09:03, 30 June 2010 (UTC)

I don't get it!

What does it mean: the price of a move in HGSS? Does it mean that I need to pay bp every time I wanna teach a move to a Pokémon, or does it mean that if I just pay bp one time I will be able to learn that move non-stop? Please answer me and add it to the page. Nickvang 15:26, 29 March 2012 (UTC)

You pay BP each time you want the move taught. I don't think that should be added to the page because purchasable things are generally one-use: potions, vitamins, Poké Balls, TMs (though Gen V TMs are infinite-use by their nature), etc.. Shiny Porygon 18:48, 18 April 2012 (UTC)

Still incomplete?

Is the Black and White 2 section still incomplete or could the note be removed? Nickvang (talk) 10:19, 26 July 2012 (UTC)

Still incomplete, but you should not remove that section. Instead, you can feel free to add a section about Move Tutors in the Pokémon anime.Special Stage Route (pit stop) 13:49, 1 August 2012 (UTC)

Dragon Ascent

I don't have access to Sun and Moon at the moment, but the move tutor list for Sun and Moon lists it as a Dragon type, but the move page lists it as a Flying type. Has the type been changed in generation VII or is this a mistake? TDoggy (talk) 13:57, 21 December 2016 (UTC)

Notable Pattern Regarding Move Tutor Availability

I may be wrong, but it seems that the games have featured a pattern since Generation III (definitely since Gen IV; it seems they started fiddling with it before, but it didn't become solid until Gen IV): the first games (Diamond/Pearl;Black/White;X/Y) only have those few tutor-exclusive moves that are taught for free, if that (Ruby/Sapphire having none). Then the later "waves" of games in that generation (FireRed/LeafGreen/Emerald;Platinum/HeartGold/SoulSilver;Black2/White2;OmegaRuby/AlphaSapphire) feature far more move tutors (and tutor moves), usually for shards or BP. Sun and Moon follows this "pattern" so far, being the first/main/completely original games of Generation VII and only having tutors for those tutor-exclusive moves. First, would this be enough to be considered an actual pattern? If so, would it be worth noting on the page? Or should we maybe wait to see how Generation VII progresses? Masternachos (talk) 01:19, 7 March 2017 (UTC)

My opinion is that it's pretty self-evident and not especially necessary to point out, but let me add that if we do note it, this pattern goes all the way back to Generation II. Let me also point out that I have a page in my userspace that's awaiting mainspacing, User:Pumpkinking0192/Special Move Tutor moves, that covers all the moves that are taught for free that are generally available in all games since the move's debut. If this page is mainspaced, your suggestion will be much more concise because we can merely say a generation's first games have special tutor moves only (R/S notwithstanding), and further games have non-special tutor moves available. Pumpkinking0192 (talk) 05:56, 7 March 2017 (UTC)
Well at least I'm not seeing patterns where they don't exist! That's a relief. Masternachos (talk) 16:56, 7 March 2017 (UTC)

XD General Move Tutor - Move Availability and Story Progression

I noticed that the information on XD's general Move Tutor does not include the points in the story when moves become available, as only three moves or so are actually available at the beginning of the game. I'd have to look and see if the XD Strategy guide has any information (or if I wrote it down). If anyone else has information on this, that would be worth adding. I will do my own research and update pages as well.
